ox. state of Nitrogen on lhs = +5:
NO3 has a single -ve charge, so -6 from oxygen plus N ox state = -1; therefore N ox state is +5.

    Nitrogen ox state in NO2 (g) = +4

this is reduction. (reduction of ox. state number.)

the oxidation state of oxygen also goes form -2 in Ba(NO3)2 to zero in O2 = oxidation (increase in ox. state number).

    voila, reduction and oxidation.
