Toning Stomach

Ok well i have recently noticed that I have been getting a beer belly or pot belly whatever you want to call it and was looking for a method of toning my stomach. Now I am very skinny and I am male so i was looking for some exercises which target my abs specifically rather than all round weight loss and foods which will help. I have recently started eating very healthily ( fruit and veg less junk) but was also looking for some specific advice on what i should also eat to help me trim up. I also have access to dumbells if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

count calories, take a few off, do some cardio. you have to lose the fat from all over, you can't spot reduce.

yep cardio and toning. crunches, sit ups that kinda thing. look on about.com if you like.

yeah just do a few crunches every night/morning and lay off the burgers.

Situps  I know it's a really obvious one but it works on me!

My ab workout, does the job for me, once every 5 days:

Situps – 3 x 25
Crunches 3 x 25
Leg raises – 3 x 50
Side bends – 4 x 10 (w/20kg)
Knee to elbow twists – 4 x 30secs

plus some cardio to make sure you can see it!

Basically the no.1 rule:

It wont matter how many crunches you actually do, if you have a thick layer of fat covering your stomach, then you will not see a thing!

In my opinion, you should focus on CV exercise and a healthy diet (ie. low fat) in order to burn the fat you currently have around your stomach.

Then once you have done that, you can actually start crunching and doing ab exercises...

......... or do both CV and crunches/situps at the same time = losing fat AND gaining muscle at the same time

can't believe you didnt think of that 'theepw' hehe

hehe, good point judi_lover.

But everyone has a six pack, it's just that in 95% of us, we have a layer of fat covering it. If you burn off that fat, you won't have to do that many crunches because you stomach mucles will show anyway. The main focus is losing the fat, once you've done that, your natural stomach muscles will show anyway.

It also depends on whether you want a flatter stomach, or big abdominal muscles.

You can't spot reduce, genetically males store fat on the gut, unfortunetly its the last place fat is burned from, and the first place it appears.

Embark on a cardio routine, and carry on eating correctly and the fat should disappear.

This is a question that I keep meaning to ask as beer has begun to take its toll. Also, could you give a slightly more detailed description of crunching?
