Hiatt Baker vs. Badock

I've been trying to decide which accommadation to choose and I know that I definitely want to be catered and be in stoke bishop and these two seemed the most down to earth, sociable halls but i'm stuck between the two? Any major differences between them? Is it true the food is terrible in Badock? Thankyouu x x x

The food at Badock can be bad. One word describes it for me... irratic. Sometimes i quite enjoy it. Sometimes it's just plain random and/or ... crap. The food isn't anything to write home about certainly, but i wouldn't consider it a reason not to apply to Badock. As long as you aren't fussy you should be fine. The bar and the social side more than make up for the food anyway.

Hiatt Baker food has a reputation for being the best food available in catered halls in SB. It’s better sometimes than others but I've never tried Badock food so can't really compare. I have to say that for formals the food is always great at HB.

Socially both halls are amazing. They're in close proximity so I sometimes find myself visiting Badock (usually for an open mic night) although it’s a bitch to actually get inside the place. Hiatt Baker often has events going on in the main hall such as parties and the forthcoming production of Grease. The bar is the place to be before a night out and usually gets packed on a Mon/Wens/Fri. Of course I'm there every night anyway :P

id say hiatt baker, cus their bar is cheap and good too, but bigger so you can get in there, wheras badocks bar is very small and the pool table is in the way of the bar so its hard to play.

Every year Badock seems to have a great mix of people and the best bar in stoke bishop. I would chose it over HB any day. Plus HB seems to have a lot of people against them...

theres a traditional rivalry between dfierrent halls. Historically the wills/hiatt baker has been the the biggest. Kinda because there the two ends of a spectrum. The stereotype is that everyone at Wills is posh whereas everyone at HB is full of chavs.

Of course its mostly just for fun and the stereotypes have little reality to them. I live in Hiatt baker and everyone here is really nice. as are most people i have met from wills.

I think its fairly widely known that Hiatt Baker's food is better than Badock's. Not that i have ever tried anything else, its just what you hear. i think in stoke bishop the catered hall food goes

HB, Wills, Churchill, Badock.

Or something like that.

Badock's bar feels a bit more like a pub than HB's. And is also cheaper. But the difference is price is very minor and even less so when you consider this year HB has a had a happy hour which often undercuts badock's prices. Both the cheapest and busiest bars in stoke bishop.

I'd also like to add HB has two full size Snooker tables and one pool table, all free, free , free!

Badock's food cycle goes something like this:

just about edible, fairly nice, really really bad, just about edible, really bad, terrible, NICE, terrible, edible, almost edible

Badock's breakfasts however go something like this:

Dinner lady: "PUT YOU MEAL CARD ON YOUR TRAY!!"
File through into the serving dungeon, pick up some salt-encrusted bacon, ONE lip-and-gristle "sausage", a leather based egg-substitute disc, some lukewarm beans, and then top it all off with some black-on-one-side white-on-the-other soggy "toast". Then serve yourself a shot glass full of the dubious fruit mix to wash it all down with.

I quite enjoy Army food - I'm NOT a fussy eater.

Hiatt Baker is great. The food is indeed terrible at Badock according to all who resided there. Hiatt Baker's food was actually quite good last year when I was there. To be honest though, apart from the food, I don't think there is a lot to choose between the two and whichever one you choose you will have a great time in.

Yeah, get out. HB is lovely. YES, it feels like living in an asylum sometimes, but it's worth it for having decent (and very large) meals, plus loads of people and thus loads of events and loads of fun. So biased.

Hiatt baker has better food, and IMO nicer rooms.

Everything else is a much-of-a-muchness.

Badock has, this year, got a load of really great people in it, and an amazing Bar.

Hiatt Baker has better food, similar rooms, an oven in your kitchenette, and the bar isn't that much worse than Badock's. And the group of people at either place will be comparable.

But, the differences between them are small. IMO Badock has some good facilities like nice-looking tennis courts and the tv room there is very good. But then HB bar has a big screen projector, which gives an excellent atmosphere for the football etc, we can watch it actually in the bar.. but these things really aren't all that important.

You should be happy at either HB or Badock really, as they are pretty similar.

That's quite true - Badock has an AMAZING TV room. ComfyPlus chairs, skyTV, and the TV itself is pretty large too.

...And they've replaced the TV in the bar (from when it was stolen) and have installed a new projector screen which is top notch. All in all, Badock is probably the best place in Stoke Bishop to watch football (and other sporting events when they are on - they even had the Open Snooker on in the bar earlier this term) especially considering how awesome the bar is. I can't wait to watch the WC group stages here. It's going to be brilliant!

I heard that HB got its bar refitted recently, I looked at some pictures of it and it looks pretty swanky! Surely badocks cant be better?
