A transition metal X3+ has a configuration [Ar]3D4. What is the atomic no. of element X?

I thought being 3d4 it would be chromium but it happens to be manganese... anyone know why? thanks!

It's a 3+ ion so to get the metal add three electrons. Two go into the 4s orbital leaving one more to go into the 3d orbital. This gives an electron arrangement of [Ar]4s2 3d5 so it's manganese.
