    Hey,

    Just a quickie.

    What is the term I'm looking for, when in direct quotations, a person misses out some of the words, yet it still makes sense.
    For example 'really dull' instead of 'It was reall dull'

    If you can get ack to me ASAP, you will be life savers.

    Thanks! :tsr2::tsr2:

    I thought that, but does that apply to quotations in texts?

    Paraphrase? Snipped quotation?

    You wouldn't need an ellipsis for the example you used...

    It's ellipsis if you miss out words within a sentence. Sometimes ellipsis is SHOWN with an ellipsis ("..."), but it doesn't have to be.

    I would say it's paraphrasing but it could be ellipsis

    In terms of spoken language (which i assume you mean by a quotation in text) it's an incomplete construction as words and grammatical elements are missing. According to my english language text book anyway! :rolleyes:
