Well. I'm gay and if I send a boy a kiss and they don't send one back it's pretty clear. I reckon it must be pretty similar.

The answer to your question is pretty self-evident. You need to tell him otherwise you'll regret it and even if he doesn't feel the same it will actually probably bring you guys closer because he'll realise how deeply your felings run for him.

The only thing you've got to worry about is the possibility of a long MSN pause. Those are killer!
