What a stupid thing to say.

In regards to the OP, as the others have said, it's best to check for other STI's as well, just to make sure

It's not that stupid really. y'know, HIV being a lot more common over there than here. As in, a lot more. Having sex with people recently resident/holidaying in that areas where HIV rates are higher can preclude you from giving blood. So it's not a wild jump to say that it's a little more likely to be passed on that way.

I'd also say it's probably just as pressing, if not more, to get tested for other STIs. they might not be as nasty as HIV, but they're certainly more common and important to spot early on.

Again, no harm in putting your mind at rest, is there?
I'd say that HIV's the big worry but otherwise :ditto:

HIV is nastier than pretty much all of the others, but then it isn't infecting 10% of our generation like some of the other ones.

given that someone is more likely to be carrying one of the others, they're just as important to be checked out for. And they can still do some horrible things to you.

Of course you should get tested, it'll put your mind at rest if nothing else. You should get a full check up so you can start with a clean slate.
Yeah so you can be asked questions like "have you engaged in unprotected vaginal penetration" until it ends with questions like "have you engaged in anal-oral sex?"

Yes, talking about sex with an adult who's a trained health professional is much worse than having HIV...

I never got asked anything of the sort when I went anyway, I think they just assumed I was a 'nice' girl and only asked me when I'd last had sex.
