i get a lot of compliments about my eyes (im female) and i suppose they are nice, but recently a guy friend of mine told me that thats just what guys say to any girl when they can't think of anything else positive..

any opinions on how true that is?

Well its impossible really for eyes to be ugly lol so loads of people get told they have nice eyes, it is true but he might have meant it, who knows??

I get a lot of people saying I have nice eyes when girls have nothing else to say.

Reply 3

I don't think thats true. Boys might be complete idiots some times, but i don't think we are that bad?!

Im sure the guy genuinely thought you had "nice eyes". I know i usually mean it, and most girls love to be complimented more on their eyes then they do on their bodys etc...

Im sure there's nothing to worry about

lol it would be a little sad if i was worrying about a specific compliment from a specific person...im just curious really:p: ...i meant in general, is it really something guys fall back on if they havent got anything else to compliment?

Reply 5

No, some people really do have lovely eyes...IMO.

Reply 6

If you get lots of compliments about them I imagine its quite likely genuine.

if they can't find anything to compliment about you, im sure they will use something like "hey, nice shoes" or something like that.. :p:

why would guys compliment a girl and not mean it?
they wouldn't be talking to you if they weren't interested, and surely if they're interested you must have positive points.
or is that too logical!?

i only say it when i mean it, you'd have to have amazing eyes or be looking at me in an amazing way

I think I once ended up using "You've got a lovely... erm... Personality!"

She ran away crying... I tend to have that effect on people....

Admittedly, she was emotionally unstable, since her favourite cat from 4 had just died *sigh*

It can be either. Personally it's my favourite compliment - I love beautiful eyes, so I'm far more likely to notice that than beautiful anything else.

I don't see the bad thing about saying she has a lovely personality

i've "heard" that saying someone has a lovely personality can be taken to mean they are ugly or fat

i'd take it as a compliment though

ditto...and same with the "nice eyes" thing...it must suck being someone with nice eyes and personality really:p:

If guys feel the need to say something when they cant think of anything else they either say "you look good tonight" or something similar. Ofc they can mean it, but its a classic 'dont know what to say' compliment

Eyes really are so important though! If you look into another person's eyes, especially if your flirting or anything like that... it's just somehow hightens the emotions. I wouldn't say that it's an empty compliment at all because of that... though I agree that some people just misuse that compliment when they just don't want to say anything wrong.
In general though, what ever the compliment - even if the guy is complimenting your ugly polka dot wellington boots - what he is trying to say is: I find you lovely and attractive
most guys just aren't very good at making great compliments, but when they make one it nearly always means that they like you - which is a great compliment

Most everyone has nice eyes though. Ask someone their favourite feature and a lot of people will say their eyes.

Reply 17

well, of course we'd prefer it if a guy complimented our great tan if we have horrible skin, which we hate, or our legs if our thighs are a bit on the big side and we hate them etc... that would make us feel really good (but the guy is probably just saying that cause he knows that and wants to get you into bed :P) at least the eye comment will be genuine and as I said - even if it's not 'original', he is making a compliment which means he does find that person lovely and sexy.
