You could have insuranc for peanuts for your laptop thus solving its stealability.

Oh and its not just international that fly... those funky ducks from the out islands and NIreland also fly too.

And there is nothing better than sitting in te Library playing with the lighting/eletric blinds and running in circles at 3am whilst trying to think of something interesting to say about Kierkergaard/Jesus/Abraham/Augustine/Pope ---- etc

..I hate laptop keyboards..
Yeh, I think that's a big one for me.. I've been meaning to sort out a comp for ages..

Is it worth getting a printer? Takes up space, more money etc - but for deadlines? *shrug*

Take both if you can, i am intending to build a custom desktop based on 4400+ X2 AMD64 or i may wait for the AM2 AMD (new skt 940's) coming this june; and of course 7900Gt. I would get a FX-60 but £700 for just the CPU...well i wont have the time for intense gaming. And either a sony 11.1 inch TX or an intel centrino duo with a geforce 7800 go

Tis a tricky one for me too actually...

For Engineering, I'm not sure I'd really need the portability so much, because it's more trouble than it's worth to try and do maths on a computer! And I'd need to use specialised software in the uni labs. Plus I could get one of those nice flat-screens I've been looking for an excuse to buy, and wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of parents snooping through my files when I'm gone (yes... I'm paranoid).

On the bad side... having a good gaming-worthy PC would make it tempting to play computer games too much.

Say I hooked my PC up to my college room's network connection... is it possible to get to your files stored on the university/department network from there?

I stayed in Keynes during interviews... seemed pretty nice, not sure if I could afford ensuite though. But it's so close to everything, I might be prepared to pay the extra for being like 30 seconds away from the bar..
I wish I had stayed overnight at interview now, so I could have checked out the accomodation I don't think I live far enough from Cambridge to have warranted it though. I want to stay in Keynes...what are the rooms like apart from being en-suite?

Yes. Personally I sftp stuff from my pc to my PWF space quite regularly. There may also be other ways of doing so, I can't remember.

get a laptop. Having one has really changed my life for the better. Now, instead of scrappy notes on pieces of paper, my notes from a lecture course look like this:

They were alright... sort of ugly to be honest but I'm sure they could be prettified, and the view is really nice. They're big too, lots of storage space. The corridor mine was on smelt kind of funny though..

But an external keyboard/mouse costs sod all, then you've got the best of both worlds.

haaa ! :ditto: I loved it. Its like walk down stairs...theres the bar. Go up some stairs ... theres the library. God, its like heaven for lazy people like me. But i remember wondering whether it would get clusterphobic having everything you need such a tiny distance away.

Visesh- How does the accommodation work at Kings? Do you usually get what your willing to pay for or is it first come first serve or what? Thnx

OH back on topic. Il be taking my lap top (which ive already had for 2 years) to what ever uni i go to. I cant wait to use it in the library :p:

alright. what i meant was, how did your self-produced notes get into a digital format. did you (a) bring a laptop to type in lectures (b) wrote them on paper and subsequently typed it in or (c) scanned the papers on which u wrote them in.

I took my laptop to lectures. It helps you work out how much content is covered too. In a good lecture it's relatively straightforward to produce 1500-1700 words of notes. In a bad lecture you'll be lucky with 700.
