Where did you place?

What? CamSIS tells you your class rank now?

I feel so cheated. I *never* found out my rank for third year because my DoS won't tell me it (apparently I have to phone up college. Damned if I can be bothered to do that). I could have placed 235th or whatever for all I know :frown:

Haha, yeah, it tells you your exact rank and how many students are in the year. I filled a data access form to get my scripts back and apparently you can get a 'final exams booklet' from your DoS with your class rank, subject marks etc. I would never have bothered if Camsis didn't tell me though.

Not to worry though, double firsts aren't usually ranked 235.

(except with no mortarboard. And I'm not a smartass.)

Congrats! That smiley doesn't have a BA (Cantab) so I'd say you're even.

I just went onto ESS for the first time in nearly a year to see if that changed too.

It hasn't. My ranking remains a mystery. All I know is I'm above 15th because my mate, who got higher than me, was 15th...

I'm confused, doesn't CamSis have class rank, subject marks, etc?

Also, I'm intrigued - what does a marked script look like from Cambridge? Is there much annotation (to show the moderator) or just a mark at the end of each question?

I seem to recall you can't get marked scripts (possibly they're destroyed?). I may be thinking of something else though.

You definitely can for law.

I think it's the case for actuarial exams, so I may've just tacked that internally to uni exams!

I think it's subject specific. My ex told me you can't ask for NatSci papers back, for example.

I heard the rumour that they were destroyed as well, to prevent appeals.

I'm a bit sceptical about that. I got my department to look into one of my exam scripts after finishing my finals, as I was 2 marks off my conditional offer for the MPhil, and I'd messed up the timing of my strongest paper fairly catastrophically. They certainly dredged up something and found grounds to approve my appeal. But whether that was an actual marked transcript or just detailed notes by the markers, I don't know. But I think they had to have seen enough to confirm that there were two high 2.1/first answers and then a hasty, incoherently scrawled paragraph where the third would have been :p:

I'm actually quite sad atm. My closest friends in my subject were Part IIs. They are all graduating. :frown:

I'll be able to answer this question in 2 weeks as I've requested my scripts back. The form I looked at said that the comments aren't extensive because it is not a supervision essay and it is supposed to help markers not students. I am not yet convinced.

At least in law, you're allowed to request your scripts two weeks after the class list is published. They are destroyed after then.

Camsis will have all my marks when they've gotten round to updating it. I know that it is fully updated for Part II students, for example.

I had unnecessary trouble interpreting what you meant by above 15th initially haha.

I have absolutely no idea what ESS is. (It's going to be awkward when I re-read this whilst sober and ESS makes perfect sense to me then.)

ESS is CamSIS for graduates. I think it stands for something like "Extended Self-Service".

Ah, makes sense that I don't know it then, thanks!

I'm pretty sure Engineering shreds them all. Can't speak for economics, but I've never heard of anyone trying to request them back.

From the Maths schedules:

"Scripts are kept, in line with the University policy, for four months following the examinations (in case of appeals) and are then destroyed."

I'm not sure if the "in line with the University policy" bit means that other subjects do exactly this.

Can I get a normal office-type job with my NatSci 2.2? Does the word Cambridge still mean anything with that class? I have low salary expectations.

Yes, but you might have to look beyond the big corporates. Specialist consultancies are a good bet to make use of the Cambridge name. Good luck!

I'm sure you will get a job somewhen. Sorry to counter Alex's post with pessimism, but in the current climate you can't expect to walk into a job. I'm not saying that because you've got a 2.2, but because nobody can these days. And being from Cambridge isn't going to make much of a difference when there just aren't all that many jobs to go around. My husband was unemployed for several months after graduating (2.1), and I can give many other anecdotal examples. And recall that lower paid, more basic jobs are also actually more competitive. And employers look at the Cambridge label and simply assume that you are unlikely to hang around for very long.

This is helpful (+alex). Thanks. Yep I do expect it to take a while.
