I'm having a bit of a dilemma here haha. I'm not sure whether to write out notes for the whole syllabus for my subjects and then once they're done start reading through them. Or should I just write notes up to where we've worked in class so that I can make sure I understand it as we're going along?

It would be a wise move to get ahead as long as you keep understanding as going along which no doubt you will when it comes to what you already learned at home in class.

Read through your class notes EVERY DAY ....
write further notes from what you've learnt in class....
    use colors for notes ....
    note down key points
look at the information, read through it, memorise it, cover it up , get someone to test you
