Im tryin to decide between two halls really: richmond park and weston. Im gonna be studying pharmacy in 2006. wanna be close to the good clubs/bars but also around the lively student life. Also near people doing similar courses...I was thinking that halls such as weston would have larger number of students from the umist side (closer for them). Would that be true? Any advice etc to help me would be really good including personal experiences. Im hoping to send the form soon. CHeerz :yy:

weston is near the city centre all the clubs/bars/canal street!!and certainly all other student halls. you can walk to city centre in 5 mins..maybe less than that. literally 1 mins walking distance to all these umist halls..(candors, and a couple more i forgot.. they r all next door) Grosvenor place is 5 mins away towards uni. its an excellent place for socialising coz everything's so close,eg. china town. basically one piece of land linking umist and man u. you can walk to your department from there. 10-15 mins ish from weston. but one thing about weston is you wont be able to stay over easter or xmas. its one of them i forgot which.

isnt richmond park the one near owens park? personally i wouldnt choose that coz 1. you will need to get bus pass to commute. 2. traffic from what i heard is horrible from there into uni, if you have 9am lect.

It's Easter. However, you can pay more to stay during this period.

There are a lot of people who are based in the UMIST buildings in Weston (you'd sort of expect that given the proximity). However, my buildings are in Oxford Road, and I know lots of people who make a similar walk - it's only about 10 minutes. If you're really lazy you could get the Oxford Road Link bus which goes down Sackville Street and on to Oxford Road.

It's a fantastic location for bars, pubs and clubs. 5th Ave is a three minute walk, the Canal Street area is about a five minute walk, China Town is about eight minutes away, and it's not exactly a long walk to get to the bars in the Printworks area.

Weston Hall is a bit unsociable compared to Richmond Park. RP is on the Owens Park/Fallowfield campus so there are a lot more students around. You're able to pop into the bars at both Owens Park (amazing) and Oak House (very good) and meet loads and loads of people who live nearby. Weston Hall's bar is awful. It's tiny and no one uses it after freshers' week. It's not even that cheap either. Also Owens Park has the bop (although it's slightly chavvy) where you'd be able to meet hundreds of people who live right next to you.

How can you call the bop "chavvy" lol. They only allow students in... who are, generally speaking, not chavs!

Smoking bad, and I think only the minority smoke anyway, so you should suffer no problems.

im also gona be doing pharmacy hopefully.. the main bulinding is in coupland 3 i think. anyway i was advised by some 1 that RP is one of the nicest places, but its expensive. If you take the bus how long does it take to get to the uni on oxford road?

Also if your taking the bus everyday wouldnt you be spending loads more?

is it better to choose fallowfield (taking the bus) or victoria park (walking)?

Even though money is an issue for me as its just for 1 year it might be better to go for the nicer accommodation.
