Problems with flatmates Watch

I'm a first year undergraduate, first time away from home, first time living with strangers.
I've been in university for the past month and am having problems with my flatmates.
If I leave any juice, milk or butter in the fridge it will invariably get used and very obviously so. I've lost 2 litres of juice and 2 pints of milk. I'm quite shy and find confrontation difficult so I think I might have left it too long.
Also, there is one girl who likes to, for want of a better phrase, tell me off. Once I came into the kitchen and found her muddy converses soaking in our communal sink and I quietly said that it was a little gross and she just told me off, telling me that it was just my OCD (which I don't have and I consider a serious illness so didn't take that choice of phrase lightly) and that I should just accept how other people live or else it would get really annoying for the rest of the year. She also told me that I was wrong for asking a flatmate to clean up his unwashed pots and pans that had been fermenting for well over a week and that I should not be so mean to him.
I guess these problems seem very petty to a lot of you, but I find it very unpleasant. I am afraid to bring up my problems with my flatmates because they could easily turn vindictive if I criticise them, not matter how tactfully I do it.
Is there any advice you wise tsrians could offer, I'm seriously considering leaving halls and going into private accommodation. Especially seeing as my room is tiny! Sorry for having a rant but I just needed to get everything out there Other than that my course is wonderful

Your flatmates are definitely worse than average, mine dont do anything like that, they are a bit messy and will leave stuff for a couple of days at most but thats it.

You could ask if you could transfer to a different flat, thats all I can recommend.

Or... you could not be *quite* so disgusting and just put some blue food colouring in your milk instead. Sprinkle your butter with a little sugar and drop some chunks of the actual fruit in your juice - or grate some carrot in them.

Why not see if you can transfer to another room in halls?

Yeah, speaking to my friends in other unis i do seem to have it worse than others. Admittedly I don't think I'll go as far as peeing in an apple juice bottle, I don't really want to go beneath their level XD I'm honestly hoping that I can get out of my contract, I know a minor miracle will have happened if I achieve this! Also, because I don't go out partying every weekend and drink till I can't see straight, some of my flatmates treat me like I'm some kind of strange dull person... And I don't like having to include buying a mini-fridge in my budget

I was considering getting a transfer, but the thing is that these halls are the cheapest that the uni offer and, coming from a less affluent family, I can't afford to go anywhere more expensive.

Why don't you see if you can move flats? I know quite a few people who have switched around flats as they hadn't clicked or got on with their original flatmates, and now they're either happier, or have moved again you're going to be living with these people for a year, you need be happy and feel comfortable around them! Doesn't necessarily mean you have to move accommodation, just literally move flats/rooms, you'd have the same contract with your accommodation company x

Trust me, a little blue or green food colouring in your drinks and they'll stop. It's only about 75p for a bottle, and you only need a drop or two.

Your flatmate sounds like a ****. I hate how inconsiderate some people can be to others. I feel to have a slight rant too lol

Ah with the whole drinking thing I've had one guy mention that I must be boring because I don't consume alcohol. You just have to laugh and pity such people. We can have just as much fun if not more by staying perfectly sober.

That would be a good suggestion only the area I'm in (Fallowfields if you've heard of it) is very loud and now that my course has started off at quite a pace I'm finding it difficult to get enough sleep (they start making serious noise from about 12) and I'm worried that I won't be able to cope on this course if I don't get enough sleep. I'm doing maths by the way, so in my books sleep is essential

Exactly! I don't think I'm boring but it isn't nice to feel alienated by half your flat just because you don't get embarrassingly drunk every weekend. I'd rather go to the movies!

Can you not ask to be moved to a different flat within the same halls? Your flatmates sound horrible, the best thing for you to do would probably be to try to live somewhere else.

Ah same! I think it's pretty pathetic that some people need to resort to that type of behaviour to have fun. I don't think there's anything wrong with people going out drinking but when you view us sober ones as boring, bring it

It sounds like a possibility. But i'm quite worried about an 'out of the frying pan into the fire' situation. I've heard that a lot of the flats round here are pretty bad
