I feel sometimes when it comes to uni couples get engaged as a moment of madness or to make things feel more secure to tie there partner down just incase there partner becomes tempted to cheat.

Check out the post about marriage. Engagement and marriage are not viewed half as seriously as the should be. In actual fact Marriage is a burden,if you want want fun and romance don't get tied down, but many see it as a bit of a novelty.

heyhey so how old are you and when did u get engaged?

Reply 7

How do you get engaged anyway, I mean, 'officially'?

Reply 8

U have to be proposed to... or propose obviously. That's it, there's no official engagement as far as I know. My boyfriend wants to get engaged but I want to wait til after uni. He wants to do it to prove how much he loves me, and he'd marry me tomorrow if I said I wanted to but I'm happy as we are for a few years yet! I know nothing will come between us, so I'm more than happy to wait. I think it's ok to marry or get engaged young as long as it's for the right reasons and not a totally spontaneous thing that you'll regret in a few years. When I marry I want it to be forever, not eighteen months!

Mark's 20, and got engaged on his 20th birthday. I'm also 20, and also got engaged on his 20th birthday, but I was 19 then.

Ditto on that, same situation for me. I'd marry my partner in a flash, but whats the point? Nothing will change, plus I'm not 100% on the idea of marriage anyway.

Not me, but 3 of my friends from uni are (2 of them to each other, they met in 1st year and we're now in 3rd, the other to her bf from before uni). They all got engaged at 20/21 but won't be married till they're 22 (they're waiting till they leave uni.)
Interestingly, they're all Christians, and a lot of the other people I've heard of who are married/engaged young seem to be Christians. Do you mind my asking if you and your fiance are too, Juno? I'm just curious because it seems to be the case amongst my friends/my brother's friends. though obviously not always.

I'm [unofficially] engaged. I'm not religious and nor is my partner. Don't particularly think this is a Christian trend...lets see...

We had two people get engaged at our school aged 16/17ish. I can't see the cheating thing being a problem, as the girl was massively fat, very ugly and highly unpleasant, and the guy was quite fat, ugly, and apparently a tw*t, though I don't know him. I'm guessing they probably both realised they were lucky to have anyone and wanted to keep hold of them. He proposed to her in our school cafe apparently.

Oh and also he had an asthma attack while they were haing sex.

Im a bloke and a GIRL blackmailed me into it. She was a proper psycho.

The stories of how she managed to blackmail me into it is a secret. Whats worse is that she made me tell all my family and things... my friends knew different tho... lol

i think the fact that christians don't believe in sex before marriage may be what's encouraging the christians to get in there earlier!!!!!!
