I think you'll have to get a bus to Piccadilly and get one to the Trafford Centre from there.

The 22 takes you straight there and you catch it on mauldeth road...(either where the train station is or the shops) or if that makes no sense use this public transport route planner...

Get the bus to Piccadilly Gardens, then get either the X50 or the 250 to Trafford Centre. It takes about an hour each way in total.

Go up to where the prceinct is go round the corner towards MBS west and from there you can take the 250, you don't need to go all the way to Picadilly and back out again.

Would living in fallowfield and having a job in the Trafford centre be too inconvenient?

I did it for a short while, as a Christmas temp one year.

It was a bit of a faff, if I'm honest, but at least the buses were effectively free because I had a bus pass.

If you can, I'd opt for a job in the centre of town, as there are a lot of retail outlets there (including the Arndale Centre, which is a big mall)
