Dirty Needles and HIV

Until recently i had always thought that the aids virus could only live/survive actually in a carrier. Thus, things like needles could only carry the virus for a short period of time... i.e 30 mins ! however, i have no idea if this is true or not ?

It really does depend, viruses are fascinating things and can survive in amazingly harsh conditions. Also although viruses may die out relatively quickly, bacteria and other virus-like particles are far sturdier than viruses. Just...don't do it really!
