military press? what?

Well if you have a small build, you can make your shoulders more muscular but you aren't going to become that much wider unless you plan on chopping up your bone and extending it.
Your better off doing an all round body workout. Like people have said, your not going to broaden your shoulders that much by working them.

Thats where you're wrong.

It does take a lot of time, but after a year or two of consistant weight training shoulder width will increase a lot.

I'm male & I have a small-built type of body.
I would like to ask how could I possibly broaden my shoulders? I mean what exercise equipment should I use?
Cheers in advance guys:tsr2:

military press. (standing press)

maybe lateral raise too, personally i wouldn't bother with the latter though.

Well if you're looking for shoulder width, lateral raise SHOULD be done.

No, they shouldn't, because they're a crappy isolation exercise in which its almost impossible to put on an appreciable amount of muscle using.

Military presses will give you some good width.

I understand compound exercises are where it's at for mass. But lateral raises really isolate the medial delts which is where the width comes from.

So yes the SHOULD be done.

How much width are you planning to put on by stimulating the medial delts exactly? If you get anything more than 1mm I'd be impressed, think about it.

Also, just isolating the muscle isn't enough, it needs to be put under sufficient stress to grow, and I don't know about you, but I can only lateral raise about 12kg for 8 reps, 12kg is gonna do jack **** for building mass.

Depends how strong you are. Wrist curling 12kg will build mass because peoples wrists aren't very strong. Similarly, lateral raising 12kg will build mass because peoples lateral delts aren't particularly strong.

Anyway, there's no point in training one muscle (well, grip trainers could get away with with only training their forearm/wrist/hand) so it's best to do a full body split. Either go to a bodybuilding website (www.bodybuilding.com for example) or ask the gym assistants about planning a split.
Pull ups
the experts will explain what muscle groups they develop but they do make the shoulder area appear wider
What's the military got to with it.
