Thinning hair :(

My mum and my elder sisters all have quite thin hair - one of my sisters has especially thin hair, like, you can see quite alot of her scalp - she has to dye her hair blondish to not make it so prominent. I've deliberately not bleached/done anything drastic to my hair (both my sisters have) so i dont harm it. However since about a year ago (I'm 18) I noticed that when I tied my hair back, with a parting still there, you can see my scalp, and theres definitely more scalp than there was before (I have brown hair so you can see the scalp more clearly). Also i went to the hairdresser the otherday and she commented on how thin my hair was.

My hair is no way near as bad as my sister's, but I really dont want my hair to thin any more - although it seems to run in all the women in my family. Would it be silly to go to the doctor now, when its not really THAT much of a problem, or wait til its really bad? Meanwhile, can anyone recommend any over-the-counter stuff that will help?

If you are concerned about it then you should go to a doctor. They'll give you the best advice.. My sister has thin hair, she uses Nanothik which can thicken hair by 50%.. However go to you're doctor first. You'll feel much better about it if you get it out in the open so that way something can be done about it....
hi,

I have exactly the same problem as you -thinning hair. Every hairdresser I went to always commented on how thin by hair was, at that point I was very stressed and worried as am only 16 years old. so therefore i decided to invest in some hair thickeners. so am currently uses nanothik as suggested by sunny316. by 50%" nanothik is a "double action hair thickener formula which can help to fatten to the hair fibre". My personal experience from using nanothik is that it is indeed a very good hair thickener. At the moment by hair is slowly thickening as i've only been using it for about 4 weeks and already lots of people have actually commented on my hair and i feel great.

my flatmate went to a trichologist for her thinning hair and he gave her diet advice, supplements and treatments. a month later it already looks better and by autumn it should be back to normal.
I have thin hair (from my mums side) double crown (from my mum) and a high hair line from my dad :'( (just my luck) so I know how u feel lol. Might try some of that nanothik as u guys seem to like it. Its been ok through the winter as I just wore a hat lol

Thinning hair can also be due to androgens...so, if you feel that you haven't done anything chemically harmful to your hair, nor have you been under alot of stress, I would go see an endocrinologist who can do some tests on your hormone levels.
