how to be a good bf/gf when they are feeling down

Today I just felt down, not about anything specific, just the gradual build up of realising I have exams soon, and I haven't done uni essays and that next week I have to pack all my stuff for uni again. So stress, but whjne my boyfriend phoned me up I wasn't very talkative, because of how I was feeling. Yet he didn't make any attenmpt to cheer me up at all. Later I went on msn and said i felt upset could he just try and cheer me up, and he said he thought I wasn't feeling that bad and wasn't that helpful.

So, the result of this is a thread which asks boyfriends although girlfriends too are invited to answer how they would try and cheer up their girl/guy. I don't mean big things, but small subtlke things like perhaps drawing her a picture etc.

Hmm, its a touch one, depends on what type of guy/girl you are with and what kind of things they both like!

If someone wanted to cheer me up, they could come round and bring cookies or something, bring round a DVD, send me a nice text message or email, ring me up randomly to see how I was feeling, run me a nice bath with loads of bubble bath and smellies, make me some cakes or something?! Any wonder why I havn't got a boyfriend, I'm too demanding lol!

nice, what if they aren't there tho, or if it is latish at night so they can't come round. Sort of what things should one say. I just think he is a little insensitive.

I typically regale her with sympathetically witty and/or flattering texts. If she 'phones me, I listen to her.

Personally i know my bf isn't much of a talker when it come to his problems (like trying to draw blood from a stone i tell thee) but i'll always offer to listen and try to get him to talk. Sometimes he just needs me to be there, and when i can i will be.

For me he's very supportive. He always listens when i need to talk, but also tries to help me figure out how to make things better/solve problems. Tonight i had a crap shift at work, he'd been out drinking all day but ended up coming to the club we both work at cos he wanted to try and cheer me up. And spend half the night running around looking for me. He knew it'd cheer me up to see a friendly face (i approcoatd the hugs too!)

I think its different for everyone tho, it really depends on the type of person they are

im like that too! all my exams coming up soon and im so stressed, and i dont wanna wind my boyfriend up, but sometimes to argue with him is the best way to get his attention - otherwise he carries on and i get nothing. no fault of his own, he is just a bloke, not a mind reader lol.

I find that if one of my friends is down in a lesson, id draw a smiley face or something and write a short little caption thatll have some sort of emotional attachment to it, something we've said before that's specific to us thatll make them
