Is it possible? Is it healthy? Would I have to considerably decrease calorie intake and up exercise if I wanted to do it? I want to do it for about ten weeks (ie lose around 50 lbs).
NB I don't intend to keep it off permanently, I expect to gain around a stone and maintain that weight, ie I'll have lost around 30-35 lbs over 10 weeks.
First week or two many people can lose that much because a lot of it is water, after that itd be extremely unhealthy. You want to lose 3.5stone in 10 weeks? What diet exactly were you hoping to go on? How do you intend to stick to a diet of like 100 calories a day?
Lol. Yes I'm a bit of a pie. It's around 1/3 of my body weight. I've been that thin before.
Event: one where I have to wear a very small dress! One of a kind, sadly only in a size 6-8 (currently am a 10-12).
Probably not the most healthy thing to do, but if you are determined and stay focused to a strict diet/ excercise regime it could be possible. Also seeing as you say that you have been thin before, if your body type is naturally thin and you have put on weight, it should be easier to lose weight (ie to go back to your original weight), and 5lb a week shouldnt be too hard.
I managed to inadvertently lose about 15lbs in three weeks due to a job change that required walking and not much time for eating, so I'm sure you will be able to hit your goals.
To lose five in a week is possible for one or two weeks at most by crash dieting but no more than that.
If you do that, your metabolism will slow to a crawl to conserve weight. It certainly isn't healthy to lose that much so quickly. You'd probably get saggy flaps and folds of skin if you tried to lose a third of your weight in such a short space of time.
If you really push yourself into extremely high levels of physical activity and maintain a sensible diet, you might manage to sustain about three a week for that period.
I think even fairly extensive and safe surgical proceedures won't provide that kind of weight loss very easily in that period given recovery times.
Isn't it the case that the more you have to lose (ie, a very large person) the easier it is to lose it initially, then when you get down to a lower weight, he amount you lose each week tails off? (May be wrong on that) But if you are a size 10-12 you are definitely not a 'pie', unless of course you're three feet tall. Good luck, but please be sensible and don't make yourself ill for the sake of a dress!

Depends to an extent. As I understand it, there are two, broadly, kinds of fat. The sort which is 'added and unnecessary' (non-core body fat) and the stuff you need to be functioning and healthy (which can vary quite a lot).
If, as it seems, all that weight is just 'added' recent stuff, maybe it can go.
Anyway, if you are so fat that you need to lose 50lbs, then its perfectly possible and safe to lose and possibly maintain 5lbs of weight loss per week, especially in the early stages.
Yes I'm quite smallish (about 5'6) but I'm not very muscular any more, so most of me is fat.
Haha, I'm not, I'm just a bit of a porker and sick of it.
Yes you are, by wanting to lose 5 pounds a week. That is ridiculous and stupid! being a size 12 on bottom and 8/10 on top isn't porky! You might just need to tone up a bit. By losing that much in a short space of time is unhealthy and irresponsible.
Your a size 10? and you want to lose 50 pounds? seriously? Your 5ft 6..thats not small at all, you'd be severely underweight if you weighed 100 pounds.
