how long before the course starts do you move?
on the MMU website it says the term starts on september 18th

That will probably be when the teaching actually starts, most unis will have freshers week before, so you will normally move in for that week. It depends on the accomadation you are in but probably about 1/2 weeks before - not more than that though normally.

If you will be in halls then you will most likely get a move-in date. If you are private, then don't turn up anything more than a week early because there will be no-one there and you will get lonely.

If you're in halls your contract will have move in dates. For me we had Freshers week for a week before teaching, and we moved in on the weekend before Freshers week started.

I think I'm gonna be moving in the Sunday at the start of Freshers week, would prefer to move in on the Saturday so as to have time to get used to the place before socialising begins, I don't get lonely being on my own for a day

At my uni everyone in halls moves in on the sunday before freshers week begins which includes registration and what not. I live in private accommodation and so moved in on the Saturday. I noticed on the Sunday that everywhere was just completly packed with cars and people moving into halls.
If you live in private and it's near to campus I'd definatly suggest moving in a day or two before everyone else does.
