Age at 6th forms

I should be turning year 11 next year, but I got put back a year so I'm going to be starting year 10. So basically I've gone from being one of the youngest year 11s to being one of the oldest year 10s. My question is, would I be eligiable to still go to a 6th form. Basically, I'd leave school when I'm 17th (my birthday is 4th June) and be starting a 6th form when I'm 17th and leaving when I'm 19. I've read the prospectus of several 6th forms (they're all attached to schools) and they say 6th form is from 16-18. Also, what age do most people start and leave 6th forms?

Being put back a year has ****ed me over good.

You're in an unusual situation. You were put back this year? (Solely by age or another reason?). The huge majority of students are educated at Sixth-Form Colleges between the ages of 16-18. However it really just goes with your education, a guy in my year (11) only recently turned 15 but he'll be attending my school's Sixth-Form next year with the rest of us. So as long as you meet the requirements to enter College after taking your GCSE's next year (?) then you'll be fine.

I don't like the fact of how old I'll look either, although when I was my correct year I was one of the youngest I looked older than most in my year - god knows what I'll look like behind, I'd prefer just not to stand out.:frown:
My sixth form takes quite a few people up to the age of 19 who have done 1 year intermediate courses first because their GCSE grades weren't good enough or are resitting a year. No-one cares at all and most of the time no-one even knows. You'll be fine

I doubt you'd look much different from your peers - a lot of my friends look younger/older than their age, and no one really cares that much. Being too young for universities is more of a problem than being too old, and once you get to uni your age doesn't matter that much anymore.

I started AS levels this year at 18
Some universities don't accept under 18s, and if they do accept them, they don't let them live in student accommodation. There'd also be the problem of a huge lack of a social life because you won't be allowed in any clubs.

I'm the opposite I think, leaving school at 17 and I HAVE to have a GAP year so I'll be 18/19 when I start University.

Shouldn't be a problem, there are people in our 6th form who should be in higher now, but are in lower as they've had to redo years. x
there is a girl in my school who was in my year last year, but she didn't go as well as she had hoped in her AS exams, and decided to resit the year. so she is a year older than everyone else. the teachers were really good to her, and i think she feels that she is certainly doing better than last year, and that altogether it was beneficial for her. she still has her friends in my year and also has made friends in her year.

I'm 17 currently, I took a year out after GCSE's and am now doing my as's. I don't think it will be a problem, the 16-18 is just the average age of students at 6th form. I will be doing another As next year with students 2 years below me!
