The Student Room Group

Leodis or James Baillie?

hey everyone.....

i'm having a hard time deciding between the two i mean leodis was intially my 1st choice but then i was disheartened to find out it was on a hill and a lot of people have said that tons of students get mugged in that area which is quite scary!!..Does any1 live in james baillie? I also didnt get the pricing how it startes from 3600-3850 for an ensuite i mean say you had a budget and you wanted to go for the £3600 price?.....i don't get that! Advice would be much appreciated!
Someone discussed the pricing thing in another thread, it basically depends which room/block you end up in, some are bigger etc.

Here are some things to think about:

Leodis is closer to the uni
Leodis standard rooms are a bit pricier than JBP but en suite is similar price
Leodis has blocks set aside for quieter undergrads

JBP has fewer students

JBP looks a bit nicer imo - also its on site with devonshire and north hill court whereas leodis is all on its own.

hey! i speak from experience. leodis is a dump. im there now and its literally a building site. i dont know james baillie but its meant to be really nice. although leodis is cool cos its rit next to uni and therefore town, but its also at the bottom of a hill u have to climb everyday. used to it now but its still an effort at 10 to 9 every morn!!

Well thanx you guys on the feedback i've thought about a lot and i've decided on James Baillie i really do hope i get it now but those of u that are at leodis it's only for the 1st year think of it that way and i really don't think my stilettos can handle a hill lol!

I live at James Baille - definately made the right choice. 20/30 minute walk (dependent on how late you are!) through the park to the Student Union which is in the middle of campus. Nice modern rooms and en suites with a better "living room area" than Leodis. 15minute walk into the centre of Headingley (where there are loads of pubs bars and restaurants if you don't fancy going into town) and there's a bus stop at the end of the road for those that would bus it into Uni / town.

You can walk into the city centre in bout 45mins slowly (I was never a walker until I came to Uni :p: )

laura6 have you got any good pics of JBP?
Is there a good party atmosphere there?
All my friends have set their heart on Leodis but I'm also torn between it and JBP. I think JBP looks nicer but I want to be closer to uni/town. I can't believe it can take 45mins to get to town! :frown:

I'll look forsome pics. Its a 45 minute very slow walk - you can do it in 30mins or get the bus which takes about 7mins.

JBP has a great party atmosphere and there's plenty of people around as its so close to Devonshire. My flatmate lived in Leodis last year and JBP this yera (she switched courses so is still a fresher) and says JBP is way better - the distance is nothing trust me.
Choose Leodis.

It'll be well cool next year..
