Camp Leaders/ UsaSummerCamp 2013

Anyone applying with or been with camp leaders before? I've applied for camp 2013 and am now 'placeable'. Anyone got any experiences good or bad they'd like to share?

The girl that my interview was really nice, it wasn't like your normal type of interview were they grill you on your cv, we just sat down and had coffee and went over my application. She asked me some questions about different situations in camp but nothing to worry about then she told me about her experiences at camp and what travelling she did after.

You've nothing to worry about, I'm just waiting on my embassy date. Are you going to any of the job fairs?

Embassy interview is when you go to get your j1 visa. Camp Leaders is based in Liverpool so there definitely will be, I hope so anyway I want to go for another visit.lol the job fair is when the camp directors come over from the states and you can get picked there and then.

Hi I've been to camp with them 3 years in a row and I found the whole experience really great!

It really depends on a few different factors. When you become placeable your profile gets sent to different directors who've asked for your particular skills and then you become 'on review' and that can happen a few times until the right camp sees your profile! I was on review twice before i got my camp the first year and wasn't placed till late but that was really down to my having filled out my application wrong on the old system! the new one is much easier to use!
I was lucky that i returned to the same camp for my next two summers so I only had to go through the waiting process once but I know from my friends that have gone through it that everyone feels as equally stressed out about it but you have to remember directors are trying to staff their whole camp and organise everything else as well so don't panic if it's taking a while, they could still be working on their winter camp programs and haven't looked for summer staff yet!

Hi there! I'm applying through camp leaders too and I'm now placeable just waiting on a camp to pick me! They've been brilliant so far absolutely no complaints.

Don't worry about your interview its so relaxed and your interviewer will make you feel very at ease, doesn't even feel like an interview just two friends having coffee! My interview lasted about 45mins then spent another 45mins chatting about films, tv and music with my interviewer so it was very relaxed!

I've applied with Camp Leaders too. I'm at a placeable stage, so just playing the waiting game. I was on review literally a few hours after my application moved across to the US. By the next day, it was taken off review and now just hoping a camp will like my application soon! What 'top skills' has everyone got?

Hey,

I went to camp with Camp Leaders as an arts and crafts specialist, they're amazing. I wouldn't worry about being placed, it could literally be anytime between now and April, maybe even later? I was really lucky and got placed at the first camp that I went 'on review' with but this still took about 4 weeks after I was first 'Placeable'.

Are you going to the camp fairs on the 19th/20th? At least that way you're able to know on the day if a camp will offer you a placement.

Thanks that makes me feel better!
Where are the camp fairs? I haven't heard of any in Belfast where I live and I can't really afford to travel to any in England/Scotland at the moment!

Hey,

As far as I know they are all in England (London and Manchester) but I'm sure you'll hear something soon, apparently now onwards is when all the camps start recruiting properly! I remember obsessively checking my profile to see if I was on review yet.. ahh I wan't to go back to camp so bad!

Did anyone go to the job fairs?

I went to the Manchester one and got placed! So excited. x

I think the waiting is the hardest part! The job fairs are great as you get to meet the camp staff and do an in person interview but not every camp is there so don't worry about having missed them! I'd say now the winter and autumn camps are behind them that the directors will start looking through all those applications now!

Hey, congrats on getting placed truthandtragedy!! where are you headed? I also got placed at the Job Fair (Manchester), Camp Leaders are the best!

I went to the job fair in London on Saturday and got placed!! They were my first choice so I was chuffed (and still am) Well done to you guys for getting placed too, where abouts are you going? I'm off to Chen-A-Wanda in Pennsylvania.

Apparently 2 thirds of the people who attended the fairs got placed with just the small collection that attended. It shows that those who weren't able to go have still got a massive chance!
