I really do not understand this question and there are no sociologists in the booklet my teacher gave me who discuss this question. I need help! Also which sociologists talk about the fact that the nuclear family is losig its functions?

Basically put in another way...
Talk about how families today (modern society) are losing their traditional functions. Say that some sociologists actually say that they aren't losing their functions because...blah blah blah and give examples why traditional families are still important.

I'll edit this and post a link to my thread where some of the stuff there might help you a bit.
EDIT: Click Here The family LTs should help you.

Hey! Functionalists like Parsons,Murray(New right) and Murdock believe that the family should be nuclear and they are against gay couples. Use these sociologists to say that they think families are becoming disfunctional.Talk about the roles in the couples are being shared etc.Hope I helped...I studied this at the start of this year so it's tested my knowledge too!

Like the previous comments people said, discuss Functionalist and the New Right in this essay question, you can discuss the causes of family loosing its functions such as social policy, as functionalists believe it is a benefit because it takes stresses and pressures off the family and the family can forcus and contentrate on socialisation...etc; Functionalists included Murdock (4 basic functions) and Parsons (2 main functions)

You could discuss how the New Right view social policy as they believe the state should make the welfare system more difficult for people to get otherwise people tends to live in 'dependency culture' and the Working Families Tax Credit (1999) has discourage women stay at home and nurturing children because in order for a family to get a claim from Working Families Tax Credit, both parents must be in a paid employment.

Hope this will help
