Oxbridge courses- EEM vs Engineering

Hi, my preference at the moment is to apply for engineering at Cambridge as I would ultimately like to study aeronutical engineering and I'm quite aware of the competitiveness and grades required, and also what the course entails.

However I'm also interested by engineering, economics and management at Oxford. Has anyone done this course and can tell me how competative it is to get into? I beleive it is as competative, or even more so, than the engineering course at Cambridge becuase of its prestige status at Oxford.

My friend does EEM. The first year is as the same as straight engineering (hard enough) and then the EM bit starts in the second year which exacerbates the situation, they have a reputation for working hard. You'll get any job you want afterwards.

Yeah im pretty sure after taking the degree you're a guaranteed millionaire.

Does anyone else hav any opinions about how incredibly difficult the course is, and equally how incredibly difficult it is to be accepted to study it?

Economics at A Level isn't a requirement but I'm sure it'll help a lot  What are your subjects for A Level?

I don't know how difficult the course is, but the first year is in common with the other two engineering courses. As for how competitive it is, I suggect you have a look on their website or online, there's generally a "% of successful applicants" figure on there

Also try posting here: Oxford Engineers Thread, or on the Oxford sub-forum itself.

Pesonally I would choose EEM over Engineerigna at Cambridge any day.

It is an outstanding course. We have a similar couse at th top Swedish unis that are less prestigious than Oxford and they end up with very good jobs right after graduation. I would say that in Sweden EEM poeple and medicine graduates have the best emplyment record and career prospects after graduation.
I am sure that every Swede would agree with me.

BTW I know that "Casey" does EEM at Oxford. Try PM him for more info.

Good luck

I can vouch for EEM's demand by industry players.

Singapore's Economic Development Board (the government agency responsible for developing the economy) craves for EEM students. Somehow it produces graduates with excellent analytical ability, etc.

I considered engineering. Basically if you do EEM you're going to become a millionaire....simple as that!
now tha raises a very good question. i'm not sure if i want cambridge as my first choice any more. cambridge doesnt offer EEM and from what i heard it's a great course! maybe i should change my profile to apply for Oxford instead
