They work in a similiar way, so the side-effects and such are similiar. Injection is more likely to stop your periods though, I think. And the obvious benefit of the implant is that it's a once every three year thing rather than every 11-13 weeks like the injection. There are also bone density issues with the injection.

After two and a half years the three monthly appointments for shots are bugging me a little, but not enough to risk getting my periods back again by getting an implant.
