Virtual Private network (VPN): Logmein Hamachi

Is it possible to use this software through the Durham network? I want to be able to connect through my home internet connection from my college room PC.

I dare say that, if you know how to use this, then you can probably also get around any blocks from the firewall. I can't imagine that enough people even know what one of these is for CIS to deliberately block them; so the only issue is if it uses some protocol that's normally blocked for security.

Edit: "I want to be able to connect through my home internet connection from my college room PC."
Hang on, but won't you have to connect through Durham's internet in order to get to your home? Why would you do that?

Also my girlfriend mentions that Durham runs on the JANET network, which is some government-funded nationwide thing - try looking that up to find out more?

Thanks for your help! VPN is quite established technology... By connecting through to my home, it's as if my computer is physically connected to my home network so I could for example connect my ps3 and play online (even though Durham doesn't support online play)

Logmein Hamachi is just a program which makes it really easy to setup a VPN. I'm having difficulties though, so they've probably got something advanced blocking it.
