Awkward Situation

Yeah so.
I backed out on someone after getting a bit intimate with them. We got to the point where we decided to be bf/gf and a little while later i backed out.

Now were just being friends, but they expect to see me the same amount (special visits and days out to places) as before, which makes me feel VERY uncomfortable. They appreciate the attention, but it feels undeniably wrong.
Im not trying to avoid them - I just want to place them in the role of an ordinary friend as in 'i'll see them when i see them'
How do i go about making my feelings known/going about this with as little hurt to the other person as possible?

As ever just use a modicum of social tact and diplomacy and tell him/her at the most propitious opportunity.

Make yourself "busy" - "... with revision" is always a good one around this time of year. (You are doing some, right?) He/she will have a couple of months to get the idea.
