Beautiful gardens

...but still miles away from the centre of Oxford.

Gods sake... i never found the distance any problem- in fact (as i understand) being far away means you are off the tourist trail. The university gardens are a lovely next-door neighbour, and the 'neighbourhood' is quiet (at least as far as i saw).

supposed to be more artsy than sciencesy isn't it, quite big on drama i believe.

NB When i visted asking for prospectus etc. the porter was the most unfriendly i had encountered out of about 7 colleges. Not that you should judge a college on its porters.

Absolutely lovely grounds...

Whats with all the negativity people?! Yes, LMH is a little way out of the centre but no more than about 15 minutes walk. Its lovely buildings, lovely grounds and seems pretty friendly from what I've seen of it. All I heard about the "futher out" colleges before I came up was negative and it turned out all to have been based on people thinking it was so far away and consequently never having seen them. Sorry for the rant but I remember being really worried as a prospective student based on what I'd heard and I don't think its fair to give such a negative impression to people who are probably quite excited about having got an offer! There's enough to worry about with meeting the offer without getting insecure about where they might end up! I'm not suggesting we brush over any of the bad points, yes it can be a pain to walk out of town, but theres no need to bypass everything thats good just because of that!!

Sorry again for ranting but I speak from experience!!

Quite right. I'm at St Anne's, which is a bit closer to town, but everyone still dismisses it as being miles away. Which is particularly stupid seeing as most people who go to the colleges in the city centre end up having to live miles out in rented accommodation for at least one year anyway.

If you're a prospective Englisher, Shrimpton is a twazzing good lecture & I bet a darn fine tutor too.

I think the dramery aspect might be something to do with Tom Littler being there... (For anyone not in Oxford yet TL = secreatary of OUDS and possibly the most prolific director in Oxford... if any Oxford student is going to win an oscar it's blatantly gonna be Tom - i've heard it said too many times!)

I'd find it hideously annoying. You never realise how useful it is having everything within 30 seconds walk until you try it for a while and never bother going to the business school because 15 minutes away is too far. Far too far. I'm dreading living in Stavertonia next year!

St Annes would be just about ok, but I still feel very sorry for my friends there when it's cold during Hilary having to come down for lectures. Plus after a night out, it's miles to get back.

Very much like being central
