Im half way through normal papers, im going to do normal > solomon > redo normal like someone above said
Yeah I basically found a topic I was really crap at in all scenarios (asymptotes) and went through all past paper questions on it; it worked a treat!

x = sec^2y + tan y, show that dy/dx = cos^2y/2tany+1

C3 Solomon Paper A, could someone show me their working out for this question please?

sure

Start off by differentiating dx/dy.

dx/dy = d(sec^2 y)/dx + d(tany)/dx

= 2secy(dsecy/dx) + sec^2 y
=2secy[secytany] + sec^2 y
=2sec^2 ytany + sec^2 y
=sec^2 y(2tany + 1)

Now flip if over to make it equal dy/dx

dy/dx = 1/[sec^2 y(2tany + 1)]

=1/[(1/cos^2 y)((2siny/cosy) +1)]
=1/[(2siny + cosy)/(cos^2 y)]
=1/[(2tany + 1)/(cos^2 y)]
=cos^2 y/(2tany + 1)

Sorry if it's hard to follow but i like lengthening it out in order to ensure i get nothing wrong and more marks.

I agree with this, Solomon papers it is :awesome:

I actually prefer some questions in the solomon papers compared to the edexcel ones.
But do all the solomons first and then you'll find the edexcel papers a breeze.
