Dundee; The Town(Not the uni)

I'm steering closer to picking it as my insurance choice. But, even though there isn't much complaints with the uni, it's Dundee itself I want to know about. With it being known as Scumdee in some circles, I just want an idea what it's like; is it a nice town? What are the people like? Are there enough anemities(sp)?

Answers on a postcard please.

I've been loads and don't like it. Always get the feeling it is "dirty" but a lot of people will disagree. That is just my opinion.

It's got a fairly generic city centre with some quite nice architecture further up north a bit. The West End is the more studenty area where the uni is located. Then there's the river, which is being linked up to the city...

Um, it's fairly nice. Plenty of amenities (you'll find all the expected shops and services, an abundance of bars for its size and a fair few nightclubs). The locals, well, you probably won't mix with many of them - some are genuinely friendly (particularly the old buggers), some are your average Scottish ne'erdowells.

Close to places like Broughty Ferry (the beach!), St Andrews & Carnoustie (golf... if you're interested), Perth, the north etc.

Get on a bus and go and see it though! Oh yes, that's probably the worst part of the centre - the bottom of the Seagate where the buses come in.
Well.. Im a Dundee Girl and going to Dundee Uni in September. It's a great city but not for everyone. The locals arn't that bad.. but I guess it's the "culture" you need to get used too... St. Andrews is lovley (I'm currently at school there) but it's very touristy....

Dundee is either a love it or hate it town.
It isn't too big like Glasgow or too small.

City Quays is finished, that new building next to the Doghouse, loads of new flats gone up- The Hub and that place next to it, casino, new Alliance building. Dunno about Abertay but Dundee Uni has a new gym and a brand new building and a new library extension so loads seems to have changed on campus!
Personally i hate it.

Far too big noisy, and as for the natives...

It is rather reminiscent of how bath felt before they cleaned it, but with the planet of the apes thrown in.

Good thing you're across in St. Andrew's and not in Dundee then, isn't it? :p:
Yeah, well I mean Terpineol is at St Andrews.... they WOULD say that. 99% of St Andrian Students are stuck up rich snobs. (I would know... I've been doing to school there for 7years and have spent the past year and a bit getting all my books from the uni library).

Dundee Locals are not bad (Speaking as a Dundonian who is going to Dundee Uni come September). Yeah... as Wombley says, Good thing you're in St Andrews then... x

I'm a stuck up snob! High five!
Am I right in thinking you went to St Leonard's? The kids that go there hardly have a better rep than St Andrews students..

Shockingly enough, I believe the idea that you can characterise a whole university is ridiculous. St Andrews has plenty of working class students, just as Dundee has its fair share of "snobs".

I'm not particularly sympathetic to either in this nonsensical pissing-contest.

But then there's Abertay! We're all working class, and hated by both St Andrews and Dundee!! Lol.

Nae joy.

I like your logo though. I saw the Abertay flag flying one during graduation or something one year and thought 'f***ing snazzy'.

um, are we talking about the same Dundee?

I love dundee. Dont listen to the people who slag it off, its just like any city.

The uni itself is in a upmarket part of town anyway.

Good nightlife, Khaza (indian), Jimmy chungs (chinese), Deep Sea (chip shop), a Liquid, Fat Sams (best nightclub), lots of bars like Rio, Laings and Tonic, Clarks (24 hour bakery) and much more.

Its quite a studentey town.

Can be cold, but it doesnt actually rain that much.
