Accomodation: Shared Study v Single Study

I chose my accomodation a few weeks ago, first choice as shared study and second as single study. A few of my mates are going to notts as well and are currently in the process of selecting their accomodation.

What exactly is the difference between shared and single studies? In the accomodation booklet I received it says you get a 'study area to share with one other person'.

Does that mean there's no desk, bedside table or any type of furniture in my room then apart from a bed and cupboard? Also, how big is this 'study area' they're on about? Will it be directly connected to my bedroom?

I suppose it means that you work in the study area and just sleep in your bedroom, that right?

Thanks!
Depends on the hall.

In Rutland, you have everything in your room and you just have a random big room in the middle... aka the party room!

In some other halls, your desk is in the study and you have a much smaller bedroom. I don't know about all of them though!
in willoughy = rediculously small room with not alot of storage space, and a room with 2 desks in.

wouldnt go for it unless you really need to go for the cheaper option!

arrghh I really wish I hadn't chosen that option now. Is there anyway I could get it changed? I can't even log back into the Portal now though because I've already submitted an application.

Anyone suggest anything?

That's not a problem  I wrote yesterday to the accomodation office and asked to change my preferences and they wrote me back that its not a problem. But I think that you should inform them as soon as possible...

Q: I chose shared study because I wanna be in a room with a friend of mine, but I wouldn't like to end up in a tiny room like that willoughy. You think I
could ask them to put me in Rutland? Or would it be to... I dunno... rude? Even if I asked the you think they would consider my request?
They might consider it, but it's not their policy to let you choose a hall.

I was in a single study in the 1st yr. and shared in the 2nd. I love being in a shared study just as much a single, but I suppose it depends who you're sharing with. The only thing that's missing in your actual bedroom in a shared study is a desk. The desk is in the middle room, but you can put it in your bedroom if you really want and turn the middle room into a lounge/party room..whatever! Shared studies are quite hard to get your hands on apparently, as they're so popular.

So S-J with the layout of a shared study, is it 3 rooms connected together, the 2 on the outside are a bedroom and connected to each bedroom a study room, with a desk in it? How big are the study rooms and do you just get a desk in them?

Thanks

I'm only joking. Rutland get a lot of stick in the first couple of weeks. It general it's not a bad thing, it's just friendly hall banter and it gives people in Rutland a good sense of community. Rutland is picked on especially because they cheated at Karni one year, well that's how the story goes anyway. xx

Yes, well, the one I was in was basically at the end of a corridor. There was a door which lead into the study area from the corridor and at either side of the study area there was a bedroom. There's doors between, so you have a private bedroom, but a shared study. In the study area there are 2 desks, chairs and bookshelves. It's quite nice having a work area and a bedroom in which you can relax.

The single studies are simply a room with a desk, bed, chair, bookshelves, wardrobe etc.
