Vitamin Overdoses.

ok, the odd couple of extra vitamins isn't bad.

but how damaging is something like 15 times the reccomended amount of vitamin a, c, d & e in one day?

granted, it was only one day. but i don't know if it will have an effect or anything?

thanks any help most appreciated - and i don't really want to call up nhs direct, i have a real phobia of phones.

thank you. x

you excrete the excess. i.e. it won't do you any damage, but might give you the skitters :p:

Reply 2

i thought that but i was reading something, and it said that vitamins a, d & e are fat-soluble, so they won't be crapped/peed out, instead it could cause damage...but it didn't go into detail

One day won't really do you any harm, but chornic over dose will be bad. Vitamin A can be fatal if OD'd on, and Vit C can cause kidney stones (although it is very hard to OD on Vit C). Don't do it agian! Lol.

You're an idiot. If you've OD'd on paracetamol get yourself to an A&E department very quickly and tell them exactly how many you've taken and you might spare yourself the possibility of long term liver damage.

Overdoes or not, I think you've pulled.

Vit A will damage your liver if overdosed. Some evidence shows that large intake of vit A will increase the chance of getting cancer, tho it has not been provened as a statement

if you look yellow, go to the doctor. as in, a+e. its a sign that your liver has been damaged. but only if you're yellow, you'll probably be ok.

also spare yourself of that other OD poroblem - death...

i don't know why some people think vitamins are so benign. they are obscure chemicals that we need in smallish amounts to survive. Ergo you give massive doses and you're in trouble. same thing with most things in life that we only NEED in small amounts.

Reply 14

I know. I took them for a reason. Its not like I just thought "heh, I'm bored, why not od?"

So vit a is a bit damaging, maybe i took too much of that. but not to worry if i'm not yellow

Vitamin C makes you poo, and vitamin B makes your pee bright yellow.

I love my fruit juices so I am always over dosing the vit C, it just means I need to go to the toilet a lot
