Should I put that I'd prefer to be in North Court or South Court? Which one's better? Oops, this is already 4 days late...

South Court rooms are all quite similar, whilst North Court rooms vary quite a lot. You'll need to decide what factors are important to you before you can decide which is better...

In North Court, you could end up with a huge, newly decorated, inward facing room with a basin, fireplace (boarded up) and a lovely view of the beautiful rare trees. On the other hand, you could get a grotty, small, awkwardly shaped room with no basin which suffers from great noise pollution because it looks onto the bus station, which is terrible not just because of the buses/coaches and *noisey* locals, but untalented buskers can make quite a racket too. Also, to get to North Court once you're already insdie College, you need to go through a tunnel - sometimes this feels annoying.....not sure why.

I think it's less risky going for a South Court room because the shapes/size are all similar (I live in NC, so I'm not too sure), and the only noise risk is the bar, which is in South Court. Also the library and computer room are quite close by.

I think you could probably stand to get a better room in North Court if you're prepared to go for a higher grade room.

Ooh, excellent, that's what I put. Although I put Grade 3-4... is that a bit stingy? I have NO idea what people normally do! I've only been to Cambridge once, for my interview, and left saying I wouldn't go there if I was paid to... until I got an offer... Oh God, I'm so unprepared! And at the moment tempted to take a gap decade or two. Cheers for replying!

I applied for North Court too, put Grade 5-6 and given the descriptions of the better rooms I have heard I really hope I get one! Heehee. Any current students care to tell me how ballot works in 2nd and 3rd years? I know some colleges have prize rooms if you get a first, does Emmanuel do that or is it just a random ballot which is then reversed?

Oooh, this was well timed; was just about to ask the same question myself. South court for me I think, since I'm late with the application -and- I need to save money by not going for a top room

I think grade 4's cool. My room's a grade 4. Let's just hope you don't a grade 4 room that would have been a grade 5/6 because of it's size, but faces the bus garage - like my room!

Good luck.

I don't think any first years will get a grade 6, but I do know of people with 5s. I live in south court (grade 3) just now but I had my time again I would request a grade 4+ north court.

Many of my friends have grade 4 north courts and they are nice.

As for the ballot, I came second last this year, so I'm in a grade 2 in Blantyre next year, but am with lots of people I'm happy to be with so that's OK. New Court in 3rd year:biggrin:
