My interview at Oxford - does this mean I didn't get in?

Helooo

Just returned from my interview at Oxford for History at Magdalen

I had my two interviews at magdalen and then about 1/3 of the Historians were told they could leave, the rest of us had to wait to see if we had another interview ... but I never got one.

Does that mean Magdalen didn't want me so they put me in the pool and no one else wanted me/had room for me?

They'll contact you I assume, to see if your declined or not. Just be patient, if they don't reply soon then you may call them up if its concerning you.

Just want to know what it meant that I was told not to leave and then never got another interview, can't be a good thing :frown: the long wait until offers in January!!

I was in the same position. Kept for another day, never got a second interview. Take it from me - second interviews are almost entirely randomly allocated. It has no bearing on your chances of success. Don't panic too much!

Hey!

I go to Magdalen and I can tell you that you really can't read into the interview process.

There have been people who have been interviewed at 6 other Colleges, but the original College they applied to accepted them in the end.

It is anyone's guess.

Best of luck!

Ahhhh I'm in the same situation! Except in my case only 3 of us got told to stay behind at St. John's (interviewing for Law) and none of us got any further interviews.

I'm thinking it's because my first interview was absolutely shocking (and this was the interview that all the other candidates seemed to have done really well in) and my second interview wasn't as horrendous.

I've kind of accepted the inevitable now :frown:

But in your case, if 2/3 of the applicants got told to stay, I don't think that means a rejection at all

It either meant that they were still unsure about you and so kept you for another day, but then:
a) decided to accept you anyway and so you didn't need a second interview
b) another college decided that they'd accept you without an interview, on the basis of your first-choice college's endorsement
c) no college decided they wanted you/wanted to interview you = no offer

There's no way of knowing which one it was until you get your decision letter, so try to put it out of your mind. You can be sure that it doesn't definitely mean a rejection though!

At Lincoln they made all the English students stay for 2 extra days, and only one guy got an extra interview (at magdalen, as it happens). I think they just like to exercise their power to do what they want without any logic

When I interviewed all the law interviewees at my college were asked to stay but none of us ended up getting further interviews. I still got in!

Just to add to to all of this - it's impossible to know how they work.
I applied to Worcester 3 years ago now...had 5 interviews in total and ended up staying about 4 days (great food) - 2 interviews at worcester, 1 at st. catz and 2 and regent's park.
I got a rejection and my feedback said that my interviews were generally strong but my ELAT (English Lit Aptitude Test) was slightly weaker than they would have liked (my mark was pretty decent really, in the highest band 'should definitely be invited for interview').

They work in mysterious ways! All the best

I don't think it means much. You get pooled beforehand for Oxford, I think.
