is it a lack of minerals or somat...?

cheers

Lots of things cause white spots. Bacterial infection, trauma to the fingernail (hitting it against something), an allergic reaction, cirrhosis, psoriasis, eczema. It's difficult to decide on a cause without more information.

calcium deficciency, you may not be getting enough calcium or your not absorbing enough from the foods in your diet, try drinking/eating more dairy products, milk being the best i believe, bare in mind it wont instantly disappear, the white smudges have to grow out with the rest of your nail, hope that helps

if its in the nails its probably because your lacking in calcium.
drink milk

Reply 4

I'd say lack of zinc

It's a myth that white spots (leukonychia) are caused by a calcium deficiency; there's no evidence of any causal relationship.

Fungal infection?

What bout ridges in the nails?

There are a number of different reasons for having white spots in your nails. Could be a fungal infection, minor trauma to the nail (ie hitting it or slamming it in something), allergic reaction to any products used on your nails, psoriasis, eczema, a lack of zinc or protein in your diet or even liver disease. If you are concerned you should always consult with your GP. It is highly unlikely to be anything particularly bad, but it never hurts to be cautious.

Myth..read the thread!

It is most likely trauma to fingernail. Like banging it. I have them. Actually a couple of weeks ago i jammed the door on my finger and it was all bruised down near the cuticle and now theres quite abit of white on the nail. The white bits will grow out as your fingernail grows.

Was flicking through a med book ages ago that said it was a Zinc deficiency.

not necessarily...it could be lack of vitamin D, which would prevent the calcium from being absorbed...regardless of how much calcium you take in

Reply 15

I think it's just where you've knocked/bruised the nail whilst it's been growing.
