There's never been a good experience, in my experience.
First time I told a guy I liked him he said he was flattered, but not interested. Second time I told a guy I liked him it resulted in a long-term relationship. Third time I told a guy I liked him he said he liked me too but thought I was too young for him.

If you don't ask though, you'll never know.
one of my close friends from home ended her 2 year relationship with her boyfriend because she had fallen for someone else - this other guy had also been giving her pretty heavy signs he was into her as well. unfortunatly it turned out he was actually more interested in her twin sister. needless to say she was heartbroken.
never asked in words... never had bad response either

i asked one of my guy mates out,he said no and obviously i was upset at first but then i realised it meant i didnt have to fancy him now,i could get over him,lol
Great for girls. Bad for boys.

I don't tell. I spontaneously take her hands, pick her up and hug her. Or kiss, if we're already on lippy terms and she's really off-guard.

LOL i would say that but then it would put him off me.
I had a good experience.
Basically, was talking to the guy on msn, telling him how I'd very stupidly kissed one of my male friends whilst drunk, the night before, and when he went a bit quiet, and said that he was sure the guy and I would make a nice couple, I sort of blurted out 'But the thing is, its not really him that I like, its someone else...'
'Oh, anyone I know?'
'Yeah. You.'
I could tell he was quite pleased. We started going out about a week or two afterwards, and have been together since!
I've never told someone I liked them, my relationships are normally initiated by guys. Last time a guy told me he liked me, I told him I just wanted to be friends which i MAJORLY regret now because he's really hot... but it's too late i reckon, it's harsh to mess people around. I'd say go for it if you reckon there's a chance they feel the same way
I had a couple of bad experiences of being upfront. Recently though, I had a great experience, so it depends on who you're telling really, and also depends if they're into you too. If they are, they should be cool with it and say it back.

how many people here have told someone that they like them and it has had a good outcome? Also who has had negative experiences as a result of telling someone they like them? If so what happened.

I like you anonymous #1
I don't think I've ever told someone I liked them. I've asked someone out before, so I guess that sort of counts, as it's implied. And how did that turn out? Well, I was too nervous to do it on the phone, so I text him... then I had a little nap, as you do... then he rung me up and told me he was seeing someone else. I probably sounded really disappointed, but in fact I was groggy from my nap! Then I forgot why I originally wanted to ask him out, so it was all ok in the end
