q) the force F1= (5i + 2j)N acts at the point A on a lamina where the position vector of A, relative to a fixed origin O, is (3i - 2j) m.
a) calculate the magnitude and the sense of the moment of the force about O. ((please answer this as simply as possible and could u please use a diagram if possible)) (4)
Another force F2 = (pi + qj), acts at the point B with position vector (-i + 4j)m so that the resultant momentum of the two forces, F1 and F2 about O is zero.
Given also that the moment of F2 about A is 34 N s in a clockwise sense,
b) find the values of p and q ((please could u explain this simply too and a diagram where possible))
Thank you soo much for this! Diagrams make it much more easier to understand
No problem. Just remember a moment of a force is defined as "force multiplied by perpendicular distance along the line of action of the force." Thus, as in the diagram, you can just extend the force lines down, as you keep the line of action of the force. I can make the diagrams bigger if need be, i notice now they may be too small
Can anyone explain this more in depth? I hate vectors. I understand most of it but i dont know why youre doing it- like i dont get why youre including 1i and 4j as a moment. I thought it was just a position vector?

You'll never get asked a question like this in an edexcel exam for m1.
