I think it's probably "I've-had-enough-of-stealing-cones-jumping-into-bushes-and-cheap-lager-and-want-to-get-into-the-real-world-and-get-a-career" syndrome.

I'm currently in my second year, and even as it is, I'm looking forward to getting on with my postgraduate studies, simply because I'm fed up of the undergraduate 'obliteration' culture. I'm hoping that postgrad life will be a bit more civilised.
I'm the opposite, am doing my finals soon but on a 4-year course and so glad about it, I'm not ready to experience 'real life' yet!
Yeah, I've had enough of being in constant debt and being away from my boyfriend. :frown: I've been here three years and while I love the independence (which I definitely will miss as I'm moving back home for a year) and Sheffield (fabulous place  )has become like my second home, I do want to move on and start experiencing new things and new places. 5 and a half weeks til I finish exams yay :dancing:
I'm sad in a way, its been an amazing experience so far, but I can't wait to get into the professional industry and get a full time job. On my final day at uni, my group design team have to give a presentation to Lotus, so its going to be quite a day. Then, the entire class is going for a drink together. Can't wait!!

Only next week left, and 3 more exams in 8 days

I can't wait to get the hell out

A while ago, I didn't want to leave

Now, University is just making me depressed

How does everyone else feel?

Do you have a job and everything lined up... because I'd imagine that would make things a lot easier for you?

Oh, sorry dude. I thought you were going to be one of those people who had everything - i.e. a future - all lined up, ready and waiting...

I thought we had a happy story on the way.

Good luck with the exams then! Hope it all works out ok.

What makes you think that the "real" world is going to be any easier?

I can understand the attraction - I was the same at the end of my first degree, eager to experience what I perceived to be the real world. It wore off quite quickly though, and now I'm relishing my return to the "unreal" world of academia. Each to his own, I suppose.

My comment was specifically aimed at guest1984 - having read a number of his posts on this forum, he doesn't exactly strike me as the hard-working, focussed type. I therefore wondered what exactly he was expecting from post-university life, apart from a regular income, and how dealing with work-related stress, deadlines and pressures was going to be any easier than dealing with university ones...

Yep, some people are cut out for academia, well, in the formal sense, in an education system, geared towards the acquisition of qualifications. However, one shouldn't (i don't think i'm aiming this at you) willy-nilly slaughter those who don't work hard and are not focused...there are explanations for this, often decent ones deserving of respect and empathy. My mother for example, she's intelligent, took History as a degree and for her personally, the contrived atmosphere of learning turned her off...her course at university, the learning context made her literally go from loving learning history to hating it. This, akin to my own situation, some people's personalities are (more/far more) compatible to a formal learning structure than others - so to an extent this explains why some are so lethargic towards their studies. I can relate to an extent, personally speaking...these aren't feeble excuses. I love learning, reading, i'm the type who wants to learn so much, possess great awareness, understanding of issues...but such desire for me, is killed in a formal structure....no matter what course i took, it wouldn't work out, even if it was aligned to my interests, even 'perfectly' aligned...it's still employed for me, in a contrived artificial manner 'learning for the sake of learning' esque.

You're absolutely right - different people are motivated by different environments. Perhaps I was letting my impression of the OP cloud my post...I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

There's no doubting Guest1984 is an attention-seeker  He's a harmless lad mind you, judging by his pointless threads...

My last post was pretty commonsensical, you know all that as well as i do...apologies if it came across as otherwise (that i didn't think you'd appreciate this perspective), i'd be insulting your intelligence otherwise....just to clarify.

Its not, I don't see a bright future at the moment

I am really struggling with the amount of revision I need to do. I think I'll need to resit one module next semester. Hopefully, it would just be the one module.

in a way yes i want it all over with, i'm in my second year...

just (like people have mentioned) the structure of the courses and learning, it does put me off at times.

Also the uni and the people itself at times, some people around here are so so fake and piss me right off, I was at the union saturday night and I was really questioning my sanity of being surrounded by such idiots

Ooh, you took the words right out of my mouth Matt. I'm in my second year too and also looking forward to uni being over and done with in so many respects. I spent three months working full-time last summer and enjoyed it so much more than I enjoy the lifestyle here.
