One of the 'Oxbridge stereotypes' which i so often hear of is intellectuals going around stoned off their heads. I was wondering to what extent is this true? Or are things like drugs non-existent at Oxford and Cambridge? Just curious....

Not to an extent that it's stereotypical behaviour, I don't think. There are the odd few people who smoke weed and stuff, but I don't know anyone on anything harder than that (though they're probably not shouting it from the rooftops)

Does it matter? With costs at Cambrigde being what they are, you probably won't be able to afford drugs anyway. Having said that, both Oxford and Cambridge are close to London where there are more drugs than you can shake a syringe at.

True. My cousin gets mashed off his tits all the time there. He says he can pick up some killer green with a days notice which is quite cool.

Cambridge claim to be under the national average for living costs? Is this true do you think? I got some info in recently from them about costs and stuff, it did seem to mount up, but i dont know if its really that much on average. My bro went to birmingham, which is cheaper i think.

Birmingham is a really cheap place to be in general... Cambridge costs that I know of seem to be a lot less than London, for example.

Er, are we talking about the general cost of Morrocan black et cetera here or the general cost of living?

Heehee, I've turned an innocent thread about drug-availability into a perverted discussion of living-costs.

Actually I was joking about the drugs. I wouldn't know a drug if it painted itself purple and danced naked on a table singing "happy-pills are here again".

    Whee

Let's get things right: It's far less common than most people think and its far more common for people to not do drugs (other than alcohol).

Out of everyone I know, I only know 1 person that smokes pot and he's a depressive.

Every male I know that went to boarding school has done pot. This includes places like Eton, Marlborough, Stonyhurst and Ampleforth and many others. A lot of these still do it, so i'd say that assumption is a little of the mark seen as about half of the students at Cam went to schools like these.

Nah, I'd agree with him. A lot of the public school boys (and girls!) have done weed, but very few of them do here. Certainly not on a regular basis. Don't forget Joey, we're here and you're not, despite your almighty knowledge on all-things-Stonyhurst.

Helenia you sound particularly hostile towards Joey. Could this be an inherent hatred of public school students?

    Thanks, Harry.

Perhaps, i'd suspect there to be less than at school. I'm not just talking about stonyhurst! despite the fact it is riddled with drugs. My cousin went to Marlborough. When I went to see him last year, all his mates were from the 'top' schools and they were off their tits most of the time. Perhaps my cousin is just with the waster crew, but theres fair cop like, he is a cool mo fo. My other cousin who is a girl at Cam, I dont think she has ever done it, she is the goody two shoes type.
