am afraid i agree with helenia and flora. i think its sweet, and a lovely ring, but i dont need a physical object to know that my boyfriend will always be there for me and wont ever cheat.

Also, at the moment, I want to stay with him forever, but i feel like too much is changing right now to know anything about the future in any certainty. At this stage of my life too much is in flux to make that kind of promise.

 I don't NEED it either. It's a gesture. Anyway, all relationships are very different and people express their love in different ways.

I'm glad everyone likes the ring. Can hardly believe he managed to choose it himself

I'm sure I thought you complained a few weeks ago about 9ct gold being tacky? Or was that someone else?

Well, now this has been moved to GD I can no longer be anonymous :hmpf:
For us it's that we know we'll be together forever, but right now we definitely won't be planning a wedding. He just wanted to show me how much he loved me, that he'll always be here and won't ever cheat.

I dont know how anyone can say that, he might cheat tomorrow, buying a ring proves he isn't going to?

I've loved someone before, but at the age of 18, at uni, years left i think it's slightly OTT to be buying 'promise' rings, when quite frankly you can't promise that your 'love' is gonna last forever. or, if you're in the school of thought that you 'never stop loving', that the r'ship is gonna 'work' forever.

But yeh, good luck with it, nice ring.

Wasn't me

I think all yellow gold is tacky though.

This triggers back memories, vague ones, of watching a programme regarding religion, a group of late teen women and early 20s, being preached to about having no sex before marriage, thus, wearing this ring to symbol their sexual purity or something...symbolism of retaining innocence, some crappy religious stuff.... - some sort of mind warping, pressurizing religious cult. It was disturbing viewing.

I was repulsed by people aggressively preaching stuff, the process, the employment...bad influences IMO.
