bra fitting-aargh!

hi girls just wondering whether you can help? I'm a 34B but I measured myself today and put in the sizes into several online bra calculators and they all said I'm a 36A. I don't get it. 34B fits me perfectly (I'm not dissillusioned, it gives me the right support and doesn't feel too tight) so why do my measurements suggest I'm a cup size lower and fatter? Aargh! My measurements are both odd numbers so do you think this has anything to do with it? The measurement underneath my breasts is 31 and apparently you need to add 5 which brings it up to a 36, but if I'm a 36 then how come when I try bras that are 36 they're too loose?!

All those bra size calculators say I'm a 32AA or something, which is ridiculous, because a 32A is too small for me (I wear 32B just fine).

Thank god for that! I was worried that my boobs are smaller than they actually are...lol

go to bravissimo - theyre experts at measuring etc and do really good fitting bras. i found them cos i am a bit on the top heavy side (36h..) so theyre good, but not i have friends who go there too who agree theyre really good. from my experience it varies a lot what size fits from make to make bra to bra etc, and if u are 36b u will just as easily fit into a 34c etc

I never have been able to understand the whole "size larger" thing. I don't really understand how someone who is a 36B can fit into a 34C...in theory wouldn't the cup size be too big and the band too small?

Anyway thanks, will try bravissimo!

no the cup is the same lol

Really?!!! Well then what's the point in having different cup sizes if they're the same? God I'm confused, what a palava!

They're the same because the band sizes are different.

I'd just go and get measured then you'll know for sure.

32c, 34 b, 36 a = the same cup size but different sizes round the back.

Are you sure? I always thought that the 32, 34, 36 etc was the band size and the a b c d etc was the cup size, so if someone had a 36 a they'd have larger ribs and smaller breasts than someone with a 32 c.

the cup size is relative to the back. a person whos a 32 c will have the exact same cup size as a person whos 36 a but much smaller ribs.

my mum says a 34B is the same in cup size to 36A which i'm measured at. MArks and spencer measuring service is quite good.

I always have problems that some of the nicer bras don't come in 36A so i end up on 34B...

i wouldnt pay much attention to those online line things....i find depending on the bra....if i go up a measurement say from a 36d and try on a 38c it all fits da same...really depends on the bra.... eg underwire/seemless etc..

I wouldn't try Bravissimo if you're a 34B... they cater for D cup +  but I agree, I've been fitted there and it's very good, instead of messing around with numbers & measurements you try on different ones around about the size you think you are and see which fits the best.

Have a look at their fitting guide. It's good lots of tips to find the perfect bra

I agree Bravissimo are good, but they only stock D cup+ so not much use to the OP...!

OP: it probably is as you said, because your measurements are odd numbers...my back measurement's 27, which should make me a 32 but they always ride up on me, 30s fit much better, especially as bras tend to stretch a bit with wear making the larger size far too loose. And as has been said, if your back size goes down one, your cup size needs to go up one, so sounds as though you've been wearing the right size all along
