Staffordshire, Westminster or Nottingham Trent?

I have to make my final decision but I'm not sure which is better.

I've applied for either Games Design or Programming at Staffordshire (Stafford)

Games Design and Programming at Westminster

And Computer Science (Games Technology) at Nottingham Trent.

I'm wondering about the general reputation for each Uni......I've already visited them and with exception of Nottingham (Looked really ick...) were nice areas. Course wise though Nottingham Trent seem to offer a good one as does Staffordshire less so for Westminster.

leaving aside the course and talking about the unis themselves:

this is only my opinion but I think Staffordshire uni is really horrible, loaded with drunken louts hurling abuse
I've also heard of people being at Westminster and hating it, though I've never visited the place

Maybe on the Stoke campus, though Ive been there loads of time and never seen any drunk louts hurling abuse so don't know where you heard that.

Stafford campus is really quiet, and not much to do- of course alot of people might like that, and it has a good small community feel- but its just not very exiting. Though the games design course is suppose to be quite good- I know a couple of people doing it.

Living costs would put me off London, and don't know much about Nottingham, though Ive heard its got good nightlife !

I got an offer for the same course at Nott Trent as you (though I wanted to go into the art arena as opposed to programming). I'd advise chosing Trent. It is generally believed to be one of the best, if not the best all round ex-poly, and their computing department is, I believe, pretty good. I also applied to Staffy, but withdrew it (SFX) due to my firm and insurance already having offered me places - no point me wasting their time and taking up a possible place someone else might want.

So yeah, i'd go for Trent.

Have you actually ever been there? Ive been a student there for 3 years and Ive never seen anything like that.

, Staffs is one of the unis I live fairly near to out of term, & some of my friends go there and haven't seen anything extreme - no more so than any other uni.

I would say that Notts Trent has the best reputation over all, and Nottingham would be a much better city to live in than Stafford or Stoke. Cheaper than London too.

Out of them, i would recommend Nottingham Trent.
I live in Stoke-on-Trent, and theres a reason im leaving to go university far, far away. :-)

Just for clarification I applied to the Stafford campus........I did hear bad things about Stoke campus but my course is exclusively Stafford only and I've visited Stafford and its one of the quietest places possible, complete opposite.

But I'm wondering which Uni has more credentials or better rep? I heard of Nottingham Trents, though one thing that puts me off is their course is more computer science orientated with games thrown in as a theme though the switchable modules seems interesting and very customizable.

Stafforshire's course seems more focused on pure games design or programming and goes quite in depth, plus I heard they're getting their own motion capture studio soon but doesn't seem like a course thats easy to switch from or would allow you to go into other areas. Though according to one ICT teacher I once talked to, they are apparentally good for computer related areas.

And in the case of Westminster....I just like London...thats about it.

I went to university in Stoke for a part time course after I graduated for a month. I didn't live in, I got the train everyday from Manchester but I did get to meet some of the students and spend a little bit of the time in the union bar.

The Stoke campus was not as bad as I expected, but I met a lot of Staffordshire grads there and some of what they said they did on thier IT degree didn't seem degree level to me at all. This does not mean the computer games course will be anything like that though  It is just one experience.

Their final year disseration was 3000 words for example, mine was 16,500.

Westminster is improving a lot, but its not located in the nicest part of London and a lot of students end up staying in Lambeth which is not a very nice area.

Personaly I think the choice has to be Nottingham or Staffordshire. Funny how both Stoke and Nottingham are a million miles away from each other but the River Trent still passes through them .

Edit a Nottingham Trent degree will probably be more respected in general terms.

Speaking as an ex- Stafford campus student...

the computer related courses are very good from what i heard from my mates who did them, they're very well equipped. (EDIT: i mean the computer depatrtments not my mates  )

the place its self is one of the most depressing places i've ever been with no culture, nightlife or anything that will keep you entertained for more than a few months.

i had a great time but i had to spend most of it indoors because there's simply no where else to go. if you're the staying in type, go for it. but if you want to meet lots of people and experience new things then you'll need a car and/or a railcard.
