I am hoping to go to Leeds in September 2013 to do Broadcast Journalism, but I am so stuck on accommodation! I want to go self catered and be close to the campus and city. I like Henry Price, City Village (I think that's what it's called) and the houses they have between 8 people near the campus. But which is best and value for money? I want to have an en suite or shared between a couple people not the accommodation with a shared bathroom between two. Any recommendations or people in the same position?

Hi! Have you thought about coming to our Accommodation Viewing Day on April 27th? From what you're saying, it sounds like there are other places like Montague Burton and Leodis that might suit you as well. If you don't like the "Jack and Jill" bathrooms (that's apparently what the bathrooms shared between 2 are called), then you may as well rule out Henry Price - there are only about 40 en suites and all the rest are Jack and Jills. But again, if you can get here on the Viewing Day, you can talk to people living there - you might decide it's not so bad. By the way, Jack and Jill is a bit of an inaccurate description as they are always shared between 2 people of the same gender.

Hi! I'm looking for accommodation for my fourth year, any suggestions? Im on year abroad at the minute and i won't be back in leeds until next september, so i can't go to any viewings or open days. I was looking at Eldon Court but now I'm not sure after reading some pretty scary reviews. I want something quiet and near campus if possible. Thank you!

You can apply for university accommodation - there's a lot more places for returning students this year and we can put you with other non-freshers. Applications open from 19 January and you'll be able to get all the information then and download a form from the website.

Hey, I'm also hoping to go to Leeds to study Broadcast Journalism I am from Leeds area myself and I really do love the catered accomodation Charles Morris, however I think I need a cheaper option and I really like the look of Central Village.

Yeah I really like central village too but then it's about £5,000 for the 43 weeks and the montague burton which is close to the uni and city but not en-suite is £4,000 and I'd be alright with a shared bathroom between a few people but not the ones shared between 2... They were rank! X

Yeah I suppose, being a girl I think I'd like an en suite room. Are you going to any more of the open days? I'm going again in February.

Yeah deffo I just need to decide which date to go. There's so many halls to choose from at Leeds it's crazy! What do you think about the small residences?

Hi I think I will be coming to Leeds this year (if I get the grades) for English Literature and I'm also stuck on accommodation. I have heard some horror stories about self-catered and apparently catered is more sociable. What is the best catered accommodation for socialising and where you can have an ensuite?

Yeah me too I think! What horror stories have you heard about self catering, I think it's better that you get to choose and cook your own food really. But Charles Morris hall, particularly Storm Jameson is the best catered accommodation at Leeds, it's expensive though at £177 a week for an en suite xx

Not from Leeds, but from my sister who goes to Manchester! Just really, really gross things like plates being left out, unwashed, for like a week; surfaces not being cleaned and sick being left! 😱 ah that does sound expensive and it would be nice to have the luxury of being able to cook my own food but I (sad as it is) probably find the social side more important!

If anyone is looking at the private halls, then my advice is to give the Unite residences the body swerve - particularly The Tannery where I was, which was very run down. They operate several building in the city, and The Tannery was appalling. Although the people managing the building were reasonably pleasant although inept, the people I had to deal with when negotiating a lowered rent (for the uncleaned, ill-furnished shambles of a room with big holes in the plaster) were really evil. And on top of that the staff had failed to collect all the keys from the previous year's tenants, and hadn't changed any of the locks, so for the first 3 months a large number of people had to share keys - consequently a real racket was made by people not being able to get into their flats. They didn't even give me a proper inventory for my flat - they gave the same one for shared flats and studio flats and your were expected to guess what things were supposed to be there. Other people's cigarette smoke came into my flat through the ventilation system too. Horrible organisation and building all round.

I've applied for Central Village, it seems the best because of how close it is to campus and it looks really nice too.
