Currently on my placement year and therefore don't hang out with my usual drinking buddies back in uni and it feels great being sober!
I've been concentrating on losing my beer belly this year....Plus i suppose its healthier to not drink!

Tip: if you are planning on drinking loads but dont want a hangover, then stick to light or clear coloured alcohol. Dark coloured alcohols like brandy and whisky gives you relatively worse hangovers than light coloured ones (like gin, vodka). Although that doesnt help if you DO actually drink excessive amounts of light coloured ones!

I've never really enjoyed drinking much. Alcohol isn't my poison I guess. I'm not a big fan of the incoherent, sloppiness of being drunk & the yuck feeling the day after. I was definitely the unusual one at school, everyone else spent their weekends hanging around outside stores trying to get people to buy booze & smokes for them.
Look around every student establishment and 8 or 9 out of 10 of the people who are throwing up, passing out, waking up to banging headaches and so on hate it - they are putting on a brave face and enduring it to try and maintain their social credibility.

reasonable amount can be good socially I suppose. I used to like getting drunk everytime I drank, and would get really sociable. Now when I get wasted, I just sit in the corner, be quiet and get upset:frown:

im 24 , always liked the odd drink out and at parties ect.. but recently i have really hated feeling ill from drink and finding hangovers a nightmare. i went out last night and ended up drinking quite a bit..totally ruined my day today, felt dreadful. Has anyone else had this change of heart about drinking? i think i am just growing up at last:biggrin:

Yeh, always get that change of heart, especially when im in a club and on my 8th-9th bottle or pint, but not alot i can do as im usually a bit wasted by then. Regret it in the morning, and just feel like crawling up into a ball and dying. :frown:

But i have given up drink now, and it weren't easy

Drinking don't appeal to me at all anymore. Maybe a sign of growing up?! who knows...

I think Robinsons use polish blackcurrants instead whilst ribena is 95% british!

Haha try drinking champagne mixed with cider topped up with milk....it curdled so it was chewy rather than liquid....didnt hold it down for very long

Happens about once a month. I usually give up for four days then I'm back to my old self.

If it extends past a week, consult your GP

I think this is effectively talking out of your arse now. People drink for social purposes, yes, but you don't get that wasted without enjoying the process.

haha thats disgusting

There are a few hangover prevention type things you can do that work sometimes.

Drink clear spirits like someone up there said. someone told me vodka is the purest form of alcohol (not sure i believe that) and thats why you dont get so much of a hangover

If your with it enough and you havent fallen asleep id suggest: 2 paracetamol, 2 pints of water and a few slices of bread.

The paracetamol kinda numbs the pain, the water stop dehydration (which is mainly what a hang over is) and, i dunno what the bread does (maybe its cos your not supposed to take paracetamol on an empty stomach because it damages your liver?)

Anyway that really works, if you can just remember to do it before you fall asleep (which lets face it, if your really wasted probly isnt gonna happen )

so is "not drinking" the new "drinking".

I've found in France, where we drink halves rather than pints, I drink alot less (five halves rather than five pints last night)
