# Principle stress question watch

1. A 19.5 Kn force is applied at point D of the cast iron post shown in the attached image. Knowing the post has a diameter of 60mm fetermine the principle stresses and the maximum shearing stress at point H.

So far ive worked out the forces in the z and y direction which are 7496.9 and 18001.2 N

Then ive worked out the Torque using (Fz x length of bar) and the moment using (Fy x height of bar from point H)

My next step would then be to work out Sigmay using Mr/I and then Tauxy using Tr/J

Then using these I would plug them into the formulas to fins sigma max and min but the answers im getting are well out from what they are supposed to be which makes me think im not following the correct steps, can anyone point me in the right direction?

2. The diagram is unclear to me. How do you know this force has a z component?
3. The z axis is the one labeled in the bottom left of the diagram. And im assuming it has one as the force it at an angle giving it a force in the y and z direction
