Me too! I had been told that Northumbria was then most formal and that teesside is more laid back, but Northumbria was really easy! My Sunderland interview was worse than Northumbria s it was 40 minutes long rather than 15!! But I got offered a place there too. I don't think teesside will be much different to be honest, Northumbria is in a city and has loads more people applying so I doubt teesside will be much harder :-). I'm not as nervous about this one as I was for the other two! Good luck anyway, let me know how u get on!
I have an interview for New College Durham on Tuesday, then my interviews are finished, only applied to 3 places. Good luck too

Hey, the interview at Sussex seemed to be a productive day I still haven't got my result back yet as it was only on the Wednesday just gone..

As soon as you get in you give your photocopies of your certificates then once everyone has arrived, the course administrator/director fices you an introduction talk about the course and the service user and social worker introduce themselves and explain their role. After this, you have the group activity where you're in a group of 4 and given a scenario/case study to discuss between you (they wanna see your teamwork skills, behaviour and communication skills) then once the assessors are satisfied, you are all taken back to the seating area for your individual interviews.

    Questions for this included..
    - why you want to study social work?
    - have you experienced any form of discrimination? What happened and what did you learn from it?
    - is there an area you want to specialise in?
    - what is teamwork and give us an example of how or where you demonstrated this?
    - what you think you can bring to the course from both academic study and your personal life?
    - have you read any books recently relating to social work? What were they and what stood out in particular for you?

That's all I remember lol xx

    For the group activity..

My group scenario was about where we draw the line of personal and professional relationships..

    More specifically,

On a home visit, Is it unacceptable/acceptable to have..

    - a hot drink..
    - a snack/sandwich..
    - a loan of dry clothing (as your's is soaked wet from the rain)

From this information you just expand on your answers and bounce-off one another xx

Hi, what was the brunel universitys interview like? what did the day consist of?
Had an interview there in march. it was a 3 stage process but people were sent home after each stage depending on their performance.

it started with an written test where you answer questions that require opinion based responses, basically asking you to say why you want to do the course.

Secondly there was a group discussion where you were given a scenario where a boy was being looked after by a depressed mother and we had to discuss this - they seemed to want us to show our assertiveness in a group setting and our social and problem solving skills.

finally there was a personal interview in which they asked the standard questions of what motivates you, why you want to go to this particular place, how you have developed your interest, what you have read that's relevant, what your specific goal is, etc.

personally i found the test and interview quite enjoyable and not too tough. the group work was hard because i lack assertiveness so i can only advise you to make yourself heard without being aggressive.

Hiya, I did go but I didn't get through to the one2one interview. I did the written test but didn't do well so I can't tell you what to expect if you make it through.
If they haven't changed things, you'll do the written test first then while they calculate the score for the test you'll be shown around the campus. After lunch you'll get feedback about your test and you'll find out if you've made it through to the one2one.
    Wishing you all the best!

Hello, I also have a selection day on Friday

I have a question. For the written test, was it based on an scenario or was it questions in relation to social work e.g. why social work? etc.
Also, did they specifically ask about legislations, procedures, laws etc. in the test? Was it basic or quite complex has a test?

    Thank you x

I have 3 interviews lined up for a Social work course.. Can anybody advise me on how to prepare for this and what they might ask me, and what sort of answers they'll be looking for?
I applied to Goldsmiths, Southbank, London Met, Brunel and Middlesex and got all five offers to do my Masters in Social work. They were all long day assessments consisting of a written exercise, group exercise and panel interview with lecturers, senior social workers and service users. It was only if you passed the written test, could you go ahead and do the other assessments. I would say to prepare practice interview questions and look into the current issues around social work as you will be asked so do your research to show you know what is going on in social work and to show your interest.
