I am planning on studying abroad at SOAS from September 2013 to June 2014 from Sciences Po Paris. I am looking into flats for rent, but I can't seem to find any in a good price range. I would prefer to have my own flat or room with other SOASians rather than live in the Dinwiddy dorms. Advice on where to look?

I guess you should take a flat a bit outside london because normally all prices are inflated inside the city! you can take the national rail every day to london (30 mintues trip, typically)

Have you checked the SOAS website to look for info regarding flat shares? You could try contacting the students' union because when I was there a few years ago they were extremely helpful.

It might be difficult to find SOASians to live with before you arrive as a lot of people choose who they're going to live with and then start looking for a place to fit them. For flatshares in general, flatshare.co.uk in my experience is very good for decent flats, but they are a bit pricey. There's also easyroommate.com and gumtree.com, but be very alert to scams. Elephant and Castle and New Cross are good areas from cheap(ish) rooms near the centre. North and East Finchley tend to to be fairly reasonable if you want a quieter area.

What puts you off Dinwiddy, if you don't mind me asking? Just the price?
