Apparently I've heard that we won't be given our actual marks till August results day and the Grade Boundaries will be published after June?
So for me, my exam is in 1 weeks time and I won't know If I got my grade or not till August?
    How does this work..?
Is anyone else doing the AQA English Language exam on the 10th of Jan?

Yeah, I'm doing the same exam Unfortunately no, we won't be able to get our grades or marks.

My English teacher said that we won't get our marks or grades until August. This is because people will be taking the same exam (not the exact same exam, but the English Language exam) in June so the grade boundaries will be established AFTER these people have too taken their English Language exams, so the data can be gathered and the grade boundaries can be distributed according to this data of both the January and June candidates.

However, you will get your UMS score. If you get, for example, a UMS of 112/120 or 115/120, then it's pretty obvious you've got an A*. If you get, maybe, 105/120 then you won't be completely sure if you've got an A or an A* and you might want to retake it in June

This is pretty much correct, but you won't actually get your UMS marks at all. You'll only get your raw marks. UMS marks are, in a way, grade boundaries, because 90% will always be an A*, 80% and A, etc.

Same principle applies though, if you get, I don't know, 95/100 (I have no idea how many marks there are haha) you're pretty sure to be on an A*.

You'll be told your raw mark in March, but they won't decided the grade boundaries and hence your UMS mark until the summer. This is because they don't want a repeat of the hassle last year when they were accused of raising the grade boundaries in the summer to reduce the number of people getting good grades, thus favouring the students who had taken units in January which had softer grade boundaries.

The exact details of this (e.g. the fact that you can go for a re-mark in March or in August for the January units) have all been given to your centre's English teachers and exams officer so they will be able to advise you.
